Forums - Sony Discussion - Disgaea 5 interview (due spring 2015; up to 100 characters on screen due to PS4 power; trial version available in next Dengeki)

Disgaea 5announced for PlayStation 4 at this week’s SCEJA Press Conference, will have the greatest volume in the series yet, this week’s Dengeki PlayStation reveals.

The amount of characters that can be displayed on-screen has seen a significant increase thanks to PlayStation 4, jumping from 10 on PS3 to 100 on PlayStation 4. There will be new systems, too.

According to Nippon Ichi Software president Sohei Niikawa, they thought about making the game multi-platform with PlayStation 3, but wanted to make something that can only be done on PlayStation 4.

The game’s story is themed around the concept of “revenge.” Dengeki PlayStation introduces the first three characters this week:

  • Kiria (voiced by Mamoru Miyano) – The protagonist. A young demon boy who swears revenge on the “Demon Emperor Void Dark.”
  • Seraphine (voiced by Sarah Emi Bridcutt) – The heroine. The sheltered princess and daughter of “Gorgeous Underworld”‘s demon king.
  • Usaria (voiced by Satomi Akesaka) – The demon king of “Rabbit Rabbit World,” cursed to go berserk if she does not eat curry.

But perhaps the biggest news, the next issue of Dengeki PlayStation will include a product code to download a trial version of Disgaea 5.

Disgaea 5 is due out for PlayStation 4 in Japan in spring 2015 for 7,200 yen.

100 characters on screen? Oh god... that's like... a lot of characters in one big screen.

Awesome news... and a demo, someone get me a damn code!!!

Edit: And Spring 2015 means we should get it here in the west in 2015 which is awesome. 2015-16 looking to be an awesome time for gaming for me =D

Did they announce a western release for this? Also Persona and Dragon Quest? Really want Persona and D5. Never played DQ but might try it if it comes to the west

They have not.

But it's Disgaea, it's NISA's bread and butter, it'll come to the west.  I'd imagine pretty sharpish too, there was 6 months between D2's Japanese release and western release.

So possibly a late 2015 or even 2016 release for the west.

What about P5?  Have they said annything about it?  Thats the one im really anxious about.  So glad they decided to do PS4.  Not only because i want to be done with PS360 but because remote play on Vita.  These type of games just feel right on the vita imo

Persona 5 was confirmed for the west back in Feb. No idea on release date though. Hopefully it will make 2015

Both the original P4 and P4G released 5 months later in the US and 8 months for the EU (though the later EU launch doesn't matter much. Yay amazon and region free consoles o/). I'd expect something similar from P5.

Not particularly impressive in the grand scheme of things, but the Disgea games have never exactly been the front runners of game tech :p

I do wonder how it will look though. I'd be happy enough with D4 quality environment models but with the textures and spites perfectly sharp. Essentially another D3 to 4 jump.

Do I need to play older Disgaea's to understand the plot?
