Forums - Gaming Discussion - Tablets are lightyears behind consoles.

In effect, this is my response to this article/video:

I am getting sick and tired of hearing "It is just a matter of time before tablets match consoles."  Could they some day match consoles?  I guess, but nothing currently indicates they are close.  In fact, Bioshock on iOS only succeeds in showing how painfully behind they are.  The iOS version of BS looks quite noticably worth than a version on a 9 YEAR OLD CONSOLE.  That is nearly a decade people!!!

Not only that, but the PS4 is roughly 10-15x stronger than the 360.  Good luck making up that ground before the PS5 is out.

In all honesty I think that one has to view this from the point of view of whoever did the article. Back at around 2010 gaming on ios ( Main market in that day ) was compared to gaming on the psp with most games coming out on both, though these were mainly 2D games or very low system requirment 3D games such as the first N.O.V.A which were usually handled better on the psp. In just four years we have went from that to a point were games can be somewhat compared to the same games on the xbox 360 and ps3 even if the same games on mobile are somewhat lacking. From what I see the amount of raw graphical power in mobile gaming will not increase as much due to problems including batterys and so on and unlike most I think we will never see a parity with mobile gaming and dedicated home console gaming.

Send a Friend Request On PSN :P

i like your pc build. I wish i had a bluray drive.

And yea tablets can match a 360 i think right now with the new tegra chip but that would be super expensive and still needs 10-15x that to match current gen consoles. Too far behind to matter at this point in time.

Systems Owned: PS1, PS2, PS3,PS4, Wii, WiiU, xbox, xbox 360, xbox one

You just don't want that they close the gap, first of all 5-6 years ago people had problems with running games like Final Fantasy or Chrono trigger and those were NES/SNES games, today you have games that almost reach last gen quality and I would consider that closing the gap. I also want to remind you it is not just the new phones/tablets that it works on, it even works on the Iphone 5 and that thing is around 2 years old.. Iphone 6 probably will get announced in less than two weeks and it could potentially play last gen games quality wise...

well, to be fair they probably deved that version for last years iPad model

this year Nvidia has made a pretty big leap forward with the K1 (maybe ahead of last gens consoles), although I'm not sure if Apple will be able to follow suit

LOL thank you.  And yeah I think everyone forgets that the reason mobile became so much stronger so fast is because it was new.  Now that it isn't, it is about to hit the same technology walls desktops and laptops hit.

1) Who cares if it can run last gen quality?  That was a decade ago.

2) Mobile is about to hit the technology wall laptops hit about a year ago.

The jumpscares in Bioshock will scare all the kids playing it and make them drop the Iwhatever, making it break.

Bet with Xander XT:

I can beat more games on his 3DS than he can on my PSVita in a month. Loser has to buy the winner a game on his/her handheld Guess who won? http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=193531

Me!

I think the graphics look ok, what's gonna be more of a problem is performance.

My ipad can't even run hearthstone without significant framerate drops and chrashing all the time and that's a cardgame... I don't see how it would be able to run this

granted it's an ipad 2 but i don't feel like getting a new one every year just to play 5 year old games. So no i don't see console gameing on mobile beeing a thing anytime soon.

Edit: also Sonic allstars racing doesn't get past the loading screen because of crashes.

Not sure which one's the duplicate anymore, so i'll kill this one since it has fewer replies.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
