Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wii platinum sellers watch

A list to watch out for sales movements, for those interested in platinum sellers.

Hello everyone, And welcome to the December edition of the Wii Platinum sellers watch.  A little Background for this series of articles:  When I first joined VGchartz, I was trying to keep track of sales for various DS and Wii games, and became hooked on getting to see platinum sellers rolling out.  Not too long after that I began a thread that does this exact thing, but decided to expand it a tad recently because of popular demand.  To see the original thread or discuss this article click here .

Now that the Holiday season has come and gone we see quite a bit of movement in my lists, and a few shocking moments.  There are quite a few games that I had initially written off and placed in the "Dead in the Water" section a while back.  some of those games, due to the holiday season, have suddenly shot up into contendership or even become gold or platinum themselves!

Thanks to Zucas, Trestres, Oyvoyvoyv , Brute, Bigjon, shrimpy_boy11 and anyone else that has helped me with this since I’ve joined and started these.

Terminology:

Platinum are the games that, according to our charts have sold over 1 million units...

Gold are the games that, according to our charts have sold over 500k units...

ALL predictions and milestones are based on VGchartz estimates, and may be slightly off from the actual numbers.

Pretty soon I will start keeping track of milestones over the platinum level.

Missing data that could make a difference:

  • Elebits still has PAL data is missing, but not close to Gold even (400k??)
  • also Excite Truck and Cooking Mama seem to be missing some data...
  • Call of Duty 3 is missing all data other than the US, it very well could be platinum or very close to platinum.

  • Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz is probably platinum

  • Tiger Woods 08 is probably platinum

  • DDR: Hottest Party is probably platinum

Platinum Updates:

The Wii Currently has 42 platinum sellers, up from 30 one month ago!

Here are the recent additions:

Rayman Raving Rabbids: TV Party

Naruto: Clash of Ninja Revolution

The Simpsons Game

Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures

Ben 10: Protector of Earth

We Ski

Big Beach Sports

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

Rock Band

Guitar Hero: World Tour

Animal Crossing: City Folk

Wii Music

Lets check with what Zucas Predicted before Christmas:

"By the end of the year though I'm fairly certain that these titles will have all gone platinum:

Deca Sports
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
Ben 10: Protector of Earth
We Ski
Naruto: Clash of the Ninja Revolution
Animal Crossing: City Folk
Wii Music
Guitar Hero: World Tour
The Simpsons Game

That will put it at least 38 platinum sellers by the end of the year. Although if Cooking Mama, Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz, Tiger Woods 08, and DDR: Hottest Party had complete data then it would be 42. Now aside from those up top there are some other titles that have a gut shot chance at being platinum by the end of the year such as Sonic Unleashed, Shaun White Snowboarding, Rock Band 1, and Big Beach Sports but more than likely they'll make it in early 2009."

Great Job!  and we actually had a few more than were foreseeable!

GOING FOR PLATINUM

These are games that are close to reaching the "platinum" milestone.

Cooking Mama: Cook Off - 930k

Cooking Mama is very close without others data, It will make it very soon if it has not done so already, no word from Majesco on whether this has occurred.

Madden NFL 08 - 920 k

I had written this one off completely, but look what budget pricing and holidays get for ya :)

The House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return - 920k

Still selling 14k weekly combined, should hit platinum in at least 2 months if not less.

Dance Dance Revolution: Hottest Party - 880k

This one has been a Sloooooooooow climber, it still selling 12k WW.  One note is that it is missing data, and could be platinum already.

FIFA 08 - 870k

This is another slow climber, that I originally counted out.

Endless Ocean - 860k

So far it is selling less than 10k per week, could get ruined by its own upcoming sequel.

WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2008 - 860k

Yet Another Necro from my dead list, if this is indicative, looks like 2009 will do well in the long run as well.

Hannah Montana: Spotlight World Tour - 830k

As with any Hannah Montana game, this is a shoe in.

Sega Superstars Tennis - 810k

Still selling less than 10k combined, won’t benefit as the 360 version has with a bundle in to boost sales.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 - 0.78m

It has been at this forever, but is missing sales data, could it be at platinum?

Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors - 780k

It has been stuck at this number for a while, and is out of print, but the announcement of DQ X on the Wii could help it along.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 - 750k

Still selling less than 10k combined, still has a shot, but with many sports games, it may get drowned out by its own sequels.

Mario Super Sluggers - 0.75

As with any Mario based sports title, this one will eventually get it.

Shaun White Snowboarding: Road Trip - 0.74m

Great reviews and balance board support have really helped this once scoffed at game.

Gold Updates:

We had a few games go gold this month including:

Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure

SpongeBob's Atlantis SquarePantis

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 All-Play

Lego Batman: The Videogame

Madden NFL 09 All-Play

Call of Duty 3

de Blob

Sonic Unleashed

Ghost Squad

MySims Kingdom(us & others sales)

Spider-Man 3

Going for the Gold

These are games that are close to reaching the "Gold" milestone.

Sports Party - 490k

It will hit gold next week

NERF N-Strike - 480k

Next week as well

The Golden Compass - 470k

Once this hits hold, I'kll bet that it is dead

Petz: Catz 2 - 470k

should hit gold in about a month

Wario Land Shake It- 460k

Still selling around 15k every week combined, should hit gold soon.

Call of Duty: World at War - 430k

word of mouth should land this gold next week, lets see if it can hit platinum.

Tales of Symphonia DNW – 410k

It is so far selling better than ToS in Japan already, so this should be a no brainer that it will hit gold, hopefully advertisement will let it hit platinum, but no holding your breath.

Sam De Amigo - 420k WW

And same as DeBlob, holiday boost doubled sales, where will it go?

No More Heroes - 350k

Still selling well, the developers estimated 500k lifetime, sequel could boost originals sales.

there are many more, but this list is good for now...

Dead in the water

I'm probably not going to add these to the list as they haven't shown movement in months if not years....

Tiger Woods 07
Happy Feet
Fire Emblem
Excite Truck

Thanks to all for looking at this, keep in mind that if you want a platinum sellers list for another console, I don't really have timne to do one, so feel fre to step up to the plate.

see you next month!

Gold is 500k and Platinum 1m right`? You might want to set them into paragraphs, one with which will make Platinum and one which will make Gold.

Platinum title: High School Musical: Sing it! is 310K away from platinum , and has only been out 16 weeks. It only sold about 15K last week, but this is a game that should keep selling 5-10K + through whole year. I believe it will make 1M within Christmas, or at least fiscal next year.

Platinum title. Madden NFL 08 has a slight change, it lacks 450K, but sells 10-15K + right now. It will make it if EA makes it a cheap version after Madden Nfl 09 is out. I slightly doubt this one however.

Gold title: Need for Street Pro Speed. It is a bad legged game, but it only lacks 100K. It should be able to make it within end of 08.

Gold title: Donkey Kong Barrel Blast. Launched in Europe 5 weeks ago, has sold 120K there and sells by a secure rate. Lacks 190K, but it should do it easily due to at least 100K sales in Europe from now till June. After that, it should be able to make 70 more K all regions (it sold 20K in USA + Japan during 100K of Europe)

Dance Dance Revolution lacks 180K, sells over 10K/week and hasn't been released in Europe and Japan yet. Almost certain 500K. Has a shot at the million.

That is VGChartz LONGEST review. And it's NOT Cute Kitten DS

High School Musical may make it with another Christmas and a budget price (currently 310,000 short)

I'm pretty sure Smarty Pants has to be really close.  It is near Gold and there are no sales for the American market where I'm pretty sure it has done at least fair.

LOL at the old sports comment.  I'm sure Tiger Woods 2008 is undertracked as ign has said it is selling great in America, so it may not be platinum, but I have a hard time believing it sold less than a third of 2007.  Additionally, after a price cut, Madden 08 should end up around 3/4 of a million.  Not quite platinum, but I'd be very surprised if 2009 doesn't go platinum.

Yeah, Smarty Pants is only 30K away from gold.

Excite Truck, Cooking Mama, Fire Emblem and Pokemon won't make it.
