Forums - Gaming Discussion - Abe's Oddysee: New n Tasty is a fantastic game and remake

I just wanted to show some love for this game and the effort J.A.W. have put into it.

First of all, the game itself. It holds up VERY well. I haven't played this game for a loooong time and I'm having a lot fun. The puzzles are still clever today, the level and world design are still great today and it's just as fun today. I thought it might feel dated, but it really doesn't. There are so many variables to each level. It's one of those game that feel really rewarding to beat, while remaining fun.

Then, the quality of the remake. It's fantastic. Everything is remade from the ground up. The 2D is changed for 2.5D, the swipe screens are gone for continuous levels, the controls have been tweaked, a quicksave feature (that was present in the sequel) has been added, some gameplay aspects have been changed slightly, etc. I think even the most purists will agree the changes are for the better. It keeps the challenge while eliminating repetition. That said, if you want to, you can ignore the quicksave feature, go for hard mode and expererience the game as originally planned (with a few more checkpoints). They could have released an HD version with 2D backgrounds and the game intact, but they went the extra mile and the game plays and looks great.

Also, if you buy the game on a Sony platform (PS4, PS3, Vita), you get the other two versions for free! Something they didn't have to do, so kudos to J.A.W. for delivering a true remake with so much effort behind and for being consumer-friendly, in an age where most publishers are assholes.

I hope they remake Exoddus (the better game, imo) in the same way.

I used to do reviews for the tech section of my city's newspaper when I was a teen, and I did a review for the original. I think I may give this a try, It looks cool.

i was going to get it than i saw the $30 price tag. a bit steep imo,. but if it goes on sale at some point i'll likely pick it up.

$30 lol. OT I dont think this type of game really resonates with a lot of people. I love games like Another World, Lester The Unlikely, Flashback and its ilk but that genre wasnt all that popular even back in the day. I will likely get this somehow when it comes to the bone.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

I've heard that if they achieve greater than 250k game sales, they'll do Exoddus.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

I may pick up the Wii U version when it comes out.

Believe it or not, I'm running out of good 2D platformers to play!
