Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Where do racing and fighting games rank today?

How about a racing/fighting hybrid? Could it work?

I've played a few racing games where their are guns and spikes attached to your car and those are pretty cool.

I think  that's called battle mode on Mario Kart.

@pokoko I'm not hating on FPS. It's a shame we've gone from beating each other in a race or fight to outright killing each other. Probably inevitable though.

Portal, Bioshock and Fallout don't really hit the same spot as Brawl, Kart and Super. Not sure they make gaming MORE diverse.

I never liked racing game and I feel fighting games are only good with the old stick, 6 buttons controllers.

Well, for one, it's fair to say there's a high chance the best selling games in all 3 genres will still be on Nintendo's console this gen. The only one I think will be given a run for its money is Mario Kart, if GT7 is something that really takes off.

I don't think these 3 genres will grow in audience this generation, but I don't think it will shrink further from last gen (lets be real, outside of the Wii all three genres were down last gen). But gaming is continuing to be more diverse than ever, and I think each of these genres will still have multiple 1+ million sellers to rally behind on every console in the coming 5 years.
