Oculus sat on their hands with development progression too long imo.
My biggest gripe with rift was the disconnection with lateral motion in the head not translating to lateral motion in games, the "fixed point rotation" causes nausia after a short time, especially for FPS, without resolving that issue they would never be able to market it full swing.
Crystal cove is just one of their prototype models, too, theres no solid plans in place to push it, or any other prototype to developers outside of internal, and no solid plans for a retail release, it's actually quite a mess right now.
