I agree that Ys is not quite as good as Zelda, it is better.

What's YS?

I always associated those initials with Yoshinori Sunahara.

Eees or whys and it's a game.  Eees is the correct pronunciation, but a lot of people call it the other.

It's an action adventure/rpg series.

It's got to be exclusive to Playstation before it could be consider Playstation's anything. The Ys series isn't exclusive to Playstation.

3D Dot Game Heroes. That's your Playstation's Zelda. Or Alundra, Dragon Valor, Brave Fencer Musashi, Threads of Fate, Demon's Souls, Gran Stream Saga, Evergrace, Forever Kingdom....

or....

....people could stop calling everything a Zelda clone because very few games are going to be original as an adventure game. Zelda isn't even original seeing that Hydlide predates it.

So 3D Dot Game Heroes is Playstation's Hydlide.

Not saying that it is a Zelda clone, just that it is the closest game to matching the uniqueness of Zelda for me, as it has many of the same elements. I know it's not exclusive to Playstation, but most of the latest games (Oath in Felghana, Ys 7, Memories in Celcesta) have been on PSP/Vita, with a couple of remakes or spinoffs landing on PC or DS. Playstation seems to be the preferred platform.

Sony should bring back the Dark CLoud series, it always reminded me of zelda

Ys rivaling Zelda? No chance, one is an RPG the other one is not, how can you compare them? And no Zelda is not an RPG!

Zelda isn't an RPG, I'll agree with you there, but Ys has a lot of the same elements that Zelda does, with a RPG overlay. You've got themed dungeons (most of which gives you a key item that you have to use to beat said dungeon), excellent boss battles that require strategy, a nicely sized overworld that just begs to be explored, and the silent protagonist who is the face of the series. Ys has RPG elements, sure, but a lot of it feels, in a way, similar to Zelda (which, in itself, sometimes feels like a RPG).

Man, I wish Ys had the budget of a Zelda game! The thought of a Vita Ys game running at native res with as much graphical fidelity as Killzone Mercenary makes nipples hard enough to cut glass. Really hope Falcom makes another one soon because I LOVED Memories of Celceta.

Also Ys kicks Zelda's ass because of music alone, not to mention the great fast paced combat, awesome boss battles and in Celceta's case the story isn't half bad either.

PlayStation Vita Japanese Software Sales (Media Create Physical/ Famitsu Digital)

I prefere ys to zelda.
it deserves 20x the sales it gets.

Blame the lack of userbase.

I love both games, but Ys really does deserve more sales. It's so under-appreciated in the west, such a great series though. Definitely one of the best adventure RPG series. Hopefully Falcom continues localizing the games.

Alundra should be the Playstation's Zelda. A shame that series wasn't a hit even in the ps1.
