Some of the most creative minds of the Squaresoft of old had long since left that company (between the years 1999-2004) resulting in the formation of Mistwalker and Monolith Soft.

i guess games like the world ends with you, Bravery default, FFXIV, etc are just trash.

Back in the 90's anything with "Squaresoft" on the box was almost a gaurenteed awesome game with an amazingly beautiful soundtrack.  It was pretty much a must buy on day 1 even if you didn't know anything about the game.

I personally can't say the same for Square-Enix.  It seems Square Enix is out of touch with rpg's and doesn't really know what the gamer wants anymore.  The have dragged the Final Fantasy name through the mud and re released and ported almost every old Final Fantasy game to every device and are just milking old Squaresoft titles for money.... Square Enix needs to get its act together before it's too late

You're so wrong it's not even real.

Squaresoft.

The Ex Soft talent that made that company are now the ones who founded Monolith Soft for games like Xenosaga and Xenoblade.
Mistwalker founded by the FF creator himself. Now Lost Odessey,Blue Dragon and The Last Story.
Brownie Brown at Nintendo  is the talent of the Mana series who went to make Mother 3 and  Help with Blue Dragon on DS. SE is a dried up well.

Squaresoft by a mile...Vagrant Story, Parasite Eve I and II, FF7,8,9,10, Xenogears, Chrono Cross, SOTET...many of my favorite games were made by these guys including my all-time favorite: Parasite Eve II.

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

I think you had to grow up in the Snes/Ps1 era to truly understand how amazing Squaresoft was.
My guess is anyone 26+ will think Squaresoft and under 26 prolly Square Enix

Ah... that blasted Final Fantasy movie ruined it for us all...

Squaresoft! Under that name they made some of the best games of all time.

Yup. That pretty much says it all. Also, PE2 is one of my all time favorites, too.

But then again, even if it was a spectacular failure, FF XIII just tried too hard for me to hate it. I mean, it's one thing to hate a quick cash-in job. It's quite another to try something difficult--like updating classic ATB combat--and fail miserably. Even if most people will never like it for what it is, it just shows too much passion for the craft for me to ever hate it.

It's hard to put my finger on it, but I think something about Squaresoft's corporate culture soured after the merger. I've said before that I think Dissidia Duodecim got Lightning's personality and character better than the original FF XIII did, and that's almost certainly because Duodecim didn't have as much executive oversight. It was a cheap fanservice game which didn't warrant the scrutiny an executive will put on a multi-million dollar project. Chances are, that's choking the life out of the bigger AAA projects.

Squaresoft anyday of the week. Hironobu Sakaguchi created Final Fantasy and was directly involved with every FF from 1 - 10. 10 was his last involvement as an Executive Producer. After that FF went to crap. And is the diabolicle mess it is today. Kingdom Hearts was also among direct influences from Sakaguchi as was Vagrant Story.

He was so influential that Kingdom Hearts character Master Eraqus was made to directly resemble Sakaguchi as an honour to him.

He made Square, and him leaving has destroyed them. The last 3 Square games Ive played are but a shell of thee former games. I wont ever waste money on a Square game again. FF13 was absolutely terrible.
