Forums - Sony Discussion - Are Sony having unexpected bulk manufacturing problems ?

They sold 2million at Launch, but ever since launch have been continously been sold out everywhere, there have been small deliveries (few 1000s) to various stores after launch and those are hotly fought after; however the deliveries s seem really  small by comparison.

This makes me think they are having a serious bulk manufacturing issue and until I see some decent delivery sizes that arent sold out in a few days I wont believe anything else.

What say you 'charters  ?

Since Sony sold so many buildings they didnt have a factory left but one:

This is where your ps4 comes from.

At launch they sold their entire back stock, now it's coming in at production rate.

Both companies have manufacturing capacities around 250-275k per week. Sony feeds mainly NA, Europe, Asia (rumoured to be 500k for launch). That's a lot of stores in a lot of places...

Sony is production ~300-400k units per week... what they produce is being sold every week.

They will announce 3 million soon.

Rumors says Sony is producing 1200-1500k per month... that is over 300k per week.

1mill a month or 250k a week.
the chart is pretty spot on

In my opinion it's more likely that this high demand they are experiencing just couldn't really be planned for without taking huge financial risks. Sony doesn't have much margin for being risky right now, so I think they went with a fairly conservative internal sales prediction and planned production around that.

The manufacturing capacity of the PS4 is usually limited by the amount of silicon wafers that are reserved to sony by Global foundries or TSMC.
