Forums - Sony Discussion - Good Bye Sony & PS3...

I believe Sony is going to lose this batte and may be this is going to be the last gaming console... i say this because of two reasons:

1. They sales have not picked up as expected in the new yr... and although they have won the weekly sales by hardly any significant amount.. 10k or 20k is nothing to be proud of when u r at an over 7 million deficiet.

2. Even winning the HD format war they have not manage to gain any momentum in US sales...

3. and even the titles like DMC 4 are selling a lot better on XBOX and in particularly giving a boast to the XBOX hardware (especially in US) and they fail to give any boast to PS3 in Japan...  and this trend is going to get worst with GTA4 and other previous PS exclusives... and i m not sure MGS is going to help any to change this trend...

So my conclusion is Sony is too lazy to even come in second in this console race. and if they lost it then i m sure they r not going to return to this console making any more... Rest of their divisions r doing good and they will soon realise that PS3 is pulling them down...

I m not saying that PS3 should be selling at Wii level but to become a force in console market PS3 should be selling like 30 - 50k more than XBOX per week... else its really a lost cause.. and with the reason i have mentioned above i fail to see this happening.. and i m not seeing any news or report or even a rumour that Sony management is realising this gr8 loss of time they r wasting in taking any initiative to reverse this trend.... i think there r still elements in Sony gaming division which r following the Kutaragi vision that PS3 is a giant that other should come to it and ask for allegiance...

So my Prediction PS3 is going to be a last gaming console by SONY

Then I guess your crystal ball is faulty

Hi, i'm solojohlo and i'm pretty fucking awesome

no way Sony is leaving - Ninty hung in there during the GC years and Sony will hang in there too

If you think Sony are going to abandon such a huge market only due to one consoles proposed 'failure' that your are gravely mistaken...

^Yes....Sony's profits continue to grow despite the PS3. They have so much money that really, they can always try again

You mean like the 39k more that it sold last week?

1) Their sales may not be what they initially thought but it's usually above 360 sales. If it's a battle for second, Sony has a good chance of winning.
2) Blu-ray adoption is slow in itself. PS3 adoption is much better.
3) Cherry picking. It's doing better on the PS3 total.

Not a good analysis. Especially when you think it's the last console by Sony.

PS3's not doing that terribly.

Compared to the PS2, or expectation of easy dominance, yes.

But it's sales aren't that bad compared to 360, and it's barely had any games. And it's now won the format war for sony.

Sony are going to wish they'd done things better, but there's no way the PS3 will be such a failure it will push them out of the games buisness.

While it's true I don't think Sony will leave by any stretch in this generation, you can't realy compare Nintendo & Sony. Nintendo makes profit on it's consoles and Sony loses expecting to make it up in software. If PS3 doesn't sell enough to sell the high ammounts of software needed they lose just like the original Xbox. Gamecube made cash so even though it wasn't selling as much there was still cash flow.

I agree with your sentiment of Sony hanging around but not for the reason you cited.

Now I'm not going to say PS3 will reach PS2 levels - but its selling steadily, games are starting to shift serious units, and in many territories its only been available for less than 12 months and is performing well vs historic comparisons (for example in UK it reached 1 M units sold faster than PS2 did before it).

Therefore... I think you need to wait a while yet before peering into your crystal ball as it obviously doesn't have enough data to go on at this stage to be reliable, nor is your understanding of DMC4 sales too solid either I'm afraid.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
