More reasons why consoles as we know them will be on their last generation. Combined with phones and tablets this generation will surely be the last

"...the best way to prepare [to be a programmer] is to write programs, and to study great programs that other people have written. In my case, I went to the garbage cans at the Computer Science Center and fished out listings of their operating system." - Bill Gates (Microsoft Corporation)

"Hey, Steve, just because you broke into Xerox's house before I did and took the TV doesn't mean I can't go in later and take the stereo." - Bill Gates (Microsoft Corporation)

Bill Gates had Mac prototypes to work from, and he was known to be obsessed with trying to make Windows as good as SAND (Steve's Amazing New Device), as a Microsoft exec named it. It was the Mac that Microsoft took for its blueprint on how to make a GUI.

""Windows [n.] - A thirty-two bit extension and GUI shell to a sixteen bit patch to an eight bit operating system originally coded for a four bit microprocessor and sold by a two-bit company that can't stand one bit of competition.""

Yep, Nintendo will retire, Sony will merge their gaming division and Microsoft will drop the Xbox division entirely.

"I've Underestimated the Horse Power from Mario Kart 8, I'll Never Doubt the WiiU's Engine Again"

First off, duplicate topic. Second off, this is a really cool thing for PC gamers, but does not address why so many people choose to game in the console realm in the first place. Maybe the hardware end of the steambox will change things, but as of now, this really doesn't do much to threaten Microsoft, Sony, or Nintendo. Good for Steam users though.

SteamOS will have no affect on consoles whatsoever. If anything, it's a further sign of PC decline and console takeover as far as gaming. But eventually it will all be tablets/phones. Maybe in 10-20 years.

SteamOS will fragment the pc userbase and become its downfall, consoles will be unaffected.

or we see the child of a sony ms gaming console

yep this gen is pretty much the last, just like the one after it will be the last and so on

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

didnt we have silly threads like this when steam announced big picture?
probably another thing to add to the long list of everything which valve do half assed.
steam only appear big because they get money for doing nothing.
once every half decent developer has their own site like EA has origin, only indies will sell through steam....even then the guys at humble bundle will make more than steam.

as far as something going down next generation is concerned, its more likely to be steam than the consoles.

SteamOS is cool, but from what we know it's nothing revolutionary. Microsoft might feel some pressure from it, but only on Windows, not xbox.

this gen will be the last as graphics will have such a high quality that they won't improve with the next gen that much to make people buy further consoles.
The leap between current and next gen isn't that big and between next gen and next next gen it will be a lot smaller,as smooth, very good looking graphics will satisfy 90% of all gamers.
