Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Project Rainfall games Last Story, Pandora's Tower, and fan requested Rodea and Earthseeker should have been delayed and revamped for the Wii U.

Which game should Nintendo have moved development towards the Wii U?

Last Story 35 59.32%

Pandora's Tower 8 13.56%

Rodea 6 10.17%

Earth Seeker 10 16.95%

Total:59

None of these games were developed by Nintendo (published by Nintendo in Japan and Europe maybe but not made by Nintendo) so Nintendo wouldn't I expect have those options. Plus they were release in Japan about two years prior to their eventual NA release. When Wii was still very relevant.

Aside as mentioned late Japanese ports were the only things even released on Wii in it's last year.

Did you have some sort of twisted dream that you wanted these games to sell possibly even less? Because that's what your idea would do. Then Nintendo would never give us nice things. And I like nice things.

This. and where is the option for 'none'?

Were Rodea and Earth Seeker actually part of Project Rainfall games? I thought it was just Last Story, Pandora's Tower, and Xenoblade. If they were indeed part of Project Rainfall, then I must be extremely out of the inner loop of things.

no they werent and they were out of the loop. I dont know what Oni Link is talking about in that regard because Rodea is a 3DS game

Then you could pick Rodea in the Poll considering it wasn't a Rainfall game.

why would i pick a game i just found out about, thats for 3ds to be delayed and put on WIi U. How the hell is a portable game being put on WIi U help it?

You said that there should be a none option in the poll. I asked if Rodea was a Rainfall game. You said no. So I said pick Rodea considering it isn't a Rainfall game meaning that you would've basically chosen the "none" option of the poll. Since this thread is about Rainfall and that game isn't actually a Rainfall game, then I thought you would've gotten it.

I can see why they didn't do it with The Last Story, Earthseeker and Xenoblade, those games began development on the Wii and were already running a bit behind when they finally dropped in 2011.

That being said, they probably would have gotten more burn out of The Last Story in Japan IF they would have had held off and had it converted to the Wii U. The remake of Fatal Frame 2 (Japan exclusive) is especially glaring as it would have been PERFECT for a Wii U launch title.

Personally, I suspect that had Nintendo really tried and not just approached the Wii U development as if it was just another system launch that they had to hype and let happen, they probably could have released it in early 2012. They would have had to drop patches to repair stuff but the fact is they did that anyway and nothing really involved in the system seemed like it couldn't have been finalized and released late spring or early summer of 2012. Had this been the case, a early Wii U launch, they could have easily released some of the later Wii games even if not converted to HD as digital releases and gotten as strong if not stronger response from the industry.

Yeah a Fatal Frame released a bit after the Wii U launch would have helped the current Wii U drought the system is having.  I am not sure why Nintendo didn't launch the Wii U in early 2012 either, but I suspect it was due to the software development side than hardware.  Nintendo really did well in launching the system with a variety of games (unfortunately there were some lazy ports of 3rd party developers), however they lagged behind their marketing efforts for the system along with releasing more 1st party titles.  Hence, I do still believe that Last Story, Fatal Frame 2, Pandora's Tower, etc would have helped alleviate the drought of software Wii U is currently having.

Part of the thing is Nintendo didn't have a firm grasp on HD development to convert their own titles to full HD. I still say, just having some of their major Wii games available via digital purchase at launch, with partial upscaling would have been a better option. But the handling of software at the end of the Wii's life cycle and the beginning of the Wii U is just another example of one or more Nintendo mistakes in recent years.

Nintendo always does this during transition.  Hopefully they would finally learn from this after the current Wii U struggles.
