I love how Sony Fanboys at IGN now defend TV apps cause they patented it in 2006.....lol

What's to defend? So because Sony chooses to put its marketing and its energies into focusing on games first they can't allow Playstation devices to do more? They have to shoehorn the PS4 into only games? People gave MS the business over its XBone because they LED with TV and then stacked draconian DRM onto its games on top of that. MS announced the XBOX One with friggen video of the Price-is-Right. Oh yeah it also plays some cool games.

It's not about defending Sony it's about Sony deciding to focus on games first. Something, people like you and I who come to sites like this, care about which is games. Then MS admittedly did try to fix by bringing the game at E3 but then took a crap all over that as well.

MS made their filthy bed and now they are laying in it. Sorry but that's the rock bottom truth.

wow, I never said it wasn't okay....lol....I just said that IGN Sony Fanboys totally changed their ways of thinking for TV Apps....overreacting by your side my friend....

That's the problem. No one changed their mind. Well, except maybe MS. Sony consoles have been doing TV Apps etc. for some time now. The backlash towards MS had nothing to do with that and mostly came from XBOX fans expecting MS to come out of the gate with games you know for gamers. They screwed that up and it all went downhill from there.

We all love the extra stuff gaming consoles can do BUT gamers being the early adopters of these consoles want to see and hear about games first. MS failed at that. Sure that gave Sony fanguys ammo to talk crap on the interwebs but that was mostly self inflicted by MS.

Totally false. Sony Fanboys and Nintendo Fanboys all dissed Microsoft and their fans. Don't act stupid lol.

This TV Console vs Console TV thing is rather silly.

I do not think people are upset about TV features, just upset with how MS showed those TV features. MS made it sound like a TV featured box that can play games. Be upset with the way MS showed off the X1 to begin with (terrible PR) but not with the console itself.

The games are there and so far the features. They just really screwed up telling their customers about it. I still think the reveal was rushed (even after postponing it a few times). They should not have done the reveal the way they did.

Sony, on the other hand, has been pretty damn good with PR so far. Show the system with games first. Stand back and let your competition put its foot in its mouth and NOT do the same. Then slowly put in these extra features that we knew would be in it. They definitely learned a lot from their Agressive Push to Mental Special-Edness that was the PS3 reveal.

MS took the bashing, it's played out now. It's ok for Sony to add TV now.

Microsfot made a TV box and added Games.

Sony made a games box and added TV.

The bolded is the right strategy. It's all about messaging and execution. Microsoft is all over the place and is completely mishandling the Xbox brand. I mean look at Windows 8. Xbox Video? How does that even make sense? I'm not on an Xbox, I'm on my Windows laptop lmfao. Also Windows 8 games are branded as Xbox games which is ridiculous.

Semantics.

They will no do an equal amount of both.

If you believe not, then how many more games will Sony bring do yo think?

as a % will do.

What's with you and this idea that PS4 will have more games than Xbox One? I never said that, even if it might be true. I've already told you this before.

It's all about messaging. Sony is positioning the PS4 as a GAMES MACHINE FIRST. MIcrosoft intended to push the Xbox One as a MULTIMEDIA machine first. Obviously Microsoft has changed their plans due to the backlast after the reveal. That's the problem here. Microsoft is all over the place trying to do everything. it's obvious the Xbox One was designed to be an amazing multi-media machine, Microsoft has failed to communicate that since the first reveal. Think about that. The biggest feature of the Xbox One isn't being talked about due to gamers wanting GAMES GAMES GAMES.

Microsoft needs to find a balance between not only fulfilling their vision for their product but also pleasing gamers with the way this is being communicated. They have failed to do this. With Don Mattrick leaving, I expect things to only get worse.

@VGKing
What's the issue with promoting the Xbox One as a multimedia machine? I already know it is going to play games because I'm not an idiot and I saw plenty of them at E3. I want to see what else the consoles can do besides games. MS has shown the interface and some of these other things while Sony is keeping the interface under wraps. Why can't we see it? User interface experience and multimedia experiences are as important as games. The hardcore gaming audience is only so big and if Sony only goes after the hardcore gamer you can bet they won't sell anywhere near what the PS2 sold. I guarantee half the people who purchased the PS2 solely did so because it played DVDs. I know I was one of those people.

It's not totally false. So are you trying to convince us that Sony fans just decided to talk crap about XBOX once the XB1 was announced? No, they have been here all along just as XBOX fans have been there. The difference is that even so-called XBOX faithful were disgusted by the reveal of the XB1 and the backlash ensued. True story.

Did you buy your PS2 at launch for DVDs? I'm guessing no. Hardcore gamers do for the games. The DVD player was an extra feature that yes Sony could say it also plays DVDs but it was first and foremost a gaming console and was marketed as such and this helped it win out against DIVX etc. Only the most hardcore went out and bought a PS3 early on and that audience helped drive the adoption of the BR standard over HDDVD. So you first have to woo the gamers to these consoles to get the inertia needed to grow the audience.

We have Apple TV, Roku, PCs, Smart TVs cable company set top boxes with DVR functions etc. etc. that do many of the things the next gen consoles are doing. Its not like the XB1 or even the PS4 are introducing these features for the first time like the PS2 did with DVD and PS3 with BluRay (they launched at or very near the beginning of those standards) so adoption is even more dependent on that core gaming audience this time around.

Saying most of the backlash came from guys interested in Xbox is the understatement of the century. Every single idiot thought he had to do a video on it.

And of course Xbox Fans were also disgusted.....

@-CraZed-
Actually I kinda did just buy the PS2 for use as a DVD player. I basically only played Q3Arena on PC at the time. I needed something to play DVDs, PS2 did the trick and happened to play games as well so it was a no brainer. I still hardly ever played games on it. I would say I gamed on the PS2 once every 3 months. Regardless the fact that people are claiming the PS4 is going to demolish the Xbox One and Xbox One is doomed is ridiculous talk. MS is pushing for a all in one media gaming device. PS4 is strictly going for the hardcore gamer. MS feels comfortable that they have a big hardcore gaming audience that they built up with the 360 so they are trying to expand their market. The Xbox One lineup of exclusives is impressive so you can't say that MS isn't taking gaming seriously, but they want to the Xbox One to be recognized as more than a one trick pony. We'll see how advertising pans out later on this year. Both companies are using a different strategy so we'll see which one works. I believe both consoles have room to be successful.

Hell, I bought my PS2 for the DVD player + the games.

But did anyone really not see this coming? Sony owns many TV stations + Movie Studios. It just makes sense for them to get into this field also.

I also think people are forgetting the future of TV programming. Soon enough there will be a huge shift from All or Nothing Cables deals to App Based "Buy what you want to watch" approach. Anyone who believes both devices will not support this are kidding themselves (as well as Andriod, iOS, Smart TVs and every other damn thing connected to the Internet)

I'd say this is for cloud-based media from their movie arm of the business.
Sony are in a situation where they have to play "follow the leader" or get left behind, like when their Walkman brand got overthrown by the iPod, and they never recovered, or when they decided not to invest in new screen techs, and let the South Koreans beat them to it. Now their LCD panels are made courtesy of the likes of Samsung and LG...
