If you want to see a preview of some next generation fuckery, look no further than Ubisoft!

"Ubisoft announced a somewhat unusual pricing scheme for the upcoming Trackmania Nations reboot last week: The base game will be free, but full access to the track editor (which is a major part of Trackmania's appeal) costs $10 per year, while full-on "Club Access," which includes admission to special racing leagues, exclusive skins, and that sort of thing, is $30 per year."

"Actually it's not a subscription model but an access to the game for a limited time. You pay for having access to the game for one period and that's it," a Ubisoft rep wrote. "When the time is over, you have to buy the game again for the time that you want to access it again."

so even less then a subscription?

edit did they do a stealth edit to the old game, mine doesn't seem to work anymore

MODS/EMULATORS

The Last of Us, Uncharted 2 & Uncharted 3 see huge performance improvements in RPCS3
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/the-last-of-us-uncharted-2-uncharted-3-see-huge-performance-improvements-in-rpcs3/
The RPCS3 team has released a new video, highlighting some major performance improvements in three Naughty Dog games. These three ND games are: The Last of Us, Uncharted 2 and… wait for it… Uncharted 3.
RPCS3 is the best Playstation 3 emulator that is currently available for the PC. Its team has been constantly improving overall performance and game compatibility, and we may soon be able to play these three games on the PC.
Now do note that these major performance improvements come from new patches/hacks. Players will have to apply these patches in order to get the following performance boosts. Moreover, these patches disable some graphical effects, so that’s something that may disappoint some of you. And while these games can run with higher framerates than those of PS3, they are not fully playable. According to the RPCS3 team, there are still some unavoidable crashes.

Tuesday news, the sequel

Outward's first DLC will corrupt you on June 16
https://www.pcgamer.com/outwards-first-dlc-will-corrupt-you-on-june-16/
Outward is an unusual juxtaposition. It's a challenging, obtuse survival RPG that will happily let you fail time and time again. But it's also an RPG where you don't die. Maybe you'll be knocked unconscious and left for a kindly stranger to rescue. Maybe you'll get locked up in a mine, forced to work for slavers. It's punishing, but those failures are part of the story.
With the launch of its first DLC, things are going to get even trickier.

Tim Sweeney says Epic Games Store giveaways help boost sales on other platforms
https://www.pcgamer.com/tim-sweeney-says-epic-games-store-giveaways-help-boost-sales-on-other-platforms/
Epic Games Store giveaways are good for gamers because the games are, you know, free. Obviously they're good for the Epic Games Store, too: You may not like how it compares to Steam, but the odds are pretty good that you've put together a sizable EGS collection by now. But Epic Games founder Tim Sweeney told Gamespot that they're also good for the game companies who give them away, because they boost sales on other platforms and storefronts.

I have to say I did not expect Epic to keep up their free game output to such a degree. The features are still quite lacking, I wonder if they manage to finish the shopping cart this year. Still needs to be a lot done before they can even attempt to move Rocket League over.

I am assuming free games is where most of their money is going into while an underpaid intern is in charge of creating features for the store. Every store on PC needs to have something to stand out if they want to survive against steam's dominance so if free games is EGS's gimmick, I don't mind that their store is very lacking since even veterans can't keep up with steam's features. I still don't like their exclusivity nonsense so I have yet to buy a single game from EGS but it's hard to ignore free games.

It is a bit funny when you consider how much shit PC gets these days for free or very cheap...

Gamepass from Windows Store which can usually be found for $1 a month
Bundles from Humble Bundle and free games once in a while etc
Arguably much more notable free games from EGS
Occasional free games from steam
If you have amazon prime, 4-6 free games every month from twitch prime
And there's tons more other stores

i think that team is having the time of their life while making that game

haklfway becoming the most expensive game ever made

The phenomenon surrounding this project has always astonished me. From how much money they've managed to secure to how can backers be happy with the development of it. It's been almost 8 years since they announced it, they're nowhere near finishing it nor the single player spinoff, that gets constantly delayed, and yet the only big complain that I remember from this game was with one of the latest in-game purchases, some crazy expensive ship that left some people angry.

Hell, even that motorbike that did nothing but be a piece of decoration and costed hundreds of dollars went without a problem.

As far as I'm concerned, nobody should be angry at completely optional stuff. But The Internet likes to get angry.

I paid 45 bucks 4-5 years ago which gets me one ship, access to the alphas, as well as the finished game and also a copy of Squadron 42 whenever it releases.  I've played enough of the alphas to know that if nothing ever happens with this, I'll have gotten my 45 dollars worth.  And honestly, I'm more excited about Squadron 42 than the main game.  If that releases, I'll be happy as a pig in shit.  The main Star Citizen game will just be a bonus.
