https://www.pcgamer.com/award-winning-mobile-game-florence-is-coming-to-pc/
Florence, released in February 2018 for iOS devices and shortly thereafter for Android, is a 20-chapter story of Florence Yeoh, a young cellist living a routine life who meets and falls for a street performer named Krish. It wasn't a huge seller—director Ken Wong told Game Informer in 2019 that sales were "okay"—but it was a major critical hit, winning "best mobile game" titles at The Game Awards, DICE Awards, GDC Awards, and BAFTAs, among others.

https://www.pcgamer.com/a-ddos-attack-has-kept-many-eve-online-players-offline-for-9-days-with-no-end-in-sight/
EVE Online hasn't quite become EVE Offline, but for many players in US timezones it might as well be. For nine days and counting, the MMO's US servers have been choking under the onslaught of a DDOS attack, leaving the in-game chat service largely inoperable for players who manage to log in. Many can't even do that, hitting an "unable to login" screen. CCP Games reports both issues, as well as lag and disconnection errors for players who are able to connect, are ongoing, with no ETA for when they may be resolved.

Fable Fortune is shutting down in March
https://www.pcgamer.com/fable-fortune-is-shutting-down-in-march/
When Fable studio Lionhead closed in 2016, it seemed for a very brief moment that the Fable series was gone for good. But mere months later, Fable Fortune was announced, a card game based on the series that was in active development at the time of the studio's closure. Following that closure, a crew of former Lionhead talent formed Flaming Fowl Studios to keep it alive, and a year later, Fable Fortune launched into Early Access.
But the dream is over: in an update on the game's official website, Mediatonic and Flaming Fowl Studios confirm that the game's servers will close on March 4. In the meantime, the in-game store is disabled.

Escape from work with free, chilled-out adventure game Respite
https://www.pcgamer.com/escape-from-work-with-free-chilled-out-adventure-game-respite/
Respite is a game about not doing very much. Really, it's a game about quietly meditating after something mildly dramatic has happened, first by dragging yourself out of bed, and then by watering the plants. The exact nature of the incident is something you'll piece together as you explore your home, but the gist is that you're overworked and overstressed, and that you snapped.

Steam has broken its record for most concurrently online users
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/steam-has-broken-its-record-for-most-concurrently-online-users/
According to SteamDB, Steam has broken its record for most concurrently online users. The last record was set on January 14th back in 2018. That record was 18.537.490 million users while the new record currently is 18.801.944 million users online.
While the number of online players is higher, the number of users in-game is lower. Back in January of 2018, more than seven million users were in-game. At the time of the new record only 5.956.968 users were playing.
The top games on Steam together account for around 2.5 million users. Starting from the top these game are Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Dota 2, Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds, Grand Theft Auto V and Monster Hunter: World.

Steam users played for nearly 21 billion (yes, billion) hours in 2019
https://www.pcgamer.com/steam-users-played-for-nearly-21-billion-yes-billion-hours-in-2019/
With 2020 now well underway, Valve has shared a look back at the "major updates and new features" that were added to Steam throughout 2019. It was a big year: More new games "found success" on Steam in 2019 than in 2018, according to the Year in Review blog post, and median earnings among new releases went up too. Monthly active users grew to nearly 95 million, and despite the occasional perception that Steam sales aren't the big deal they used to be, "2019 finished strong with our most successful sale ever."
(...)
There are some interesting bits of trivia, too. Nearly 21 billion hours of game time were played on Steam last year, 4.3 million items were uploaded to the Steam Workshop (including some "fake items" used to hijack accounts that forced the introduction of new verification steps), 44 review bombs were addressed, and over the final two months of the year, 3.7 million people used Remote Play, and 2.3 million used Remote Play Together.

Cliff Bleszinski says LawBreakers failed because he was too 'political'
https://www.pcgamer.com/cliff-bleszinski-says-lawbreakers-failed-because-he-was-too-political/
It's a sad reality of the videogame business that sometimes, for a variety of reasons, good games fail. Games like, say, Lawbreakers. Evan liked it an awful lot, calling it "a complex, physical, and deep competitive shooter" in his 84/100 review, but it nonetheless tanked badly. Its emergency-pivot battle royale followup, Radical Heights, held early promise, but it was a rush job and it showed.
The games failed for a number of different reasons, two of the most obvious being Overwatch and PUBG. (Fortnite actually showed up a little late to really take part in the beatdown.) But in an Instagram post that will surely prove unfortunate in short order, Boss Key Studios co-founder Cliff Bleszinski shared some other thoughts on where it all went wrong.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake's timed exclusivity to the Playstation has a new deadline of April of 2021, according to updated box art published on the Square Enix website. That makes a certain amount of sense, though, considering Square Enix recently announced it needed more time to work on the game and wouldn't be hitting its original March 3, 2020 release date. The new date is now April 10, 2020—exactly one year before the timed exclusivity now ends.

Gears of War studio head is leaving to work on Diablo
https://www.pcgamer.com/gears-of-war-studio-head-is-leaving-to-work-on-diablo/
Gears of War veteran Rod Fergusson has announced he will leave his role as studio head at The Coalition in March. Come that time, he'll be in charge of overseeing the Diablo series at Blizzard, presumably with a focus on Diablo 4.
Fergusson made the announcement today on Twitter. It's a big move: Fergusson has worked on Gears of War since its inception in 2005, with the exception of a brief stint at Irrational Games during 2012 and 2013. When Microsoft announced it had purchased the Gears series from Epic Games in 2014, Fergusson returned to the series. Despite his short stint at Irrational, Fergusson has credits on every shipped Gears of War game.

It's a deceptively cute village building game where your entire village fits on one screen, with each of the little houses, the trees and crops, represented as tiles on a tiny grid. To chop down trees, you merely click on them. To plant crops, you merely click on them. To hunt those boars roaming around the place, you merely...well, you get the idea, I'm sure.

World of Warcraft's subscriber base has more than doubled since the launch of Classic
https://www.pcgamer.com/world-of-warcrafts-subscriber-base-has-more-than-doubled-since-the-launch-of-classic/
When World of Warcraft Classic went live in August 2019, we pondered the question of its long-term viability. Some of us believed that it would have legs, at least as long as Blizzard continued to provide updates, while others expected it to be a flash in the nostalgia pan.
It's still early, but at this point it looks like those who bet on its durability are going to come out on top. Activision said during today's Q4 financial presentation that World of Warcraft's "active player community" at the end of 2019, defined as players with monthly or longer subscriptions, was more than double what it was at the end of the second quarter, less than two months prior to the launch of Classic.

Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA 5 sales have hit more than 150 million
https://www.pcgamer.com/red-dead-redemption-2-and-gta-5-sales-have-hit-more-than-150-million/
Rockstar has already done a bit of boasting about the ongoing success of GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, especially their online components, and now Take-Two has provided some more numbers to put it into context.
In its recent quarterly earnings call, the publisher announced that GTA 5 sales exceeded expectations, despite it entering its seventh year, boasting more than 120 million lifetime sales. You'd think that everyone who wanted it would already have it, but no, another 20 million people picked it up last year.

Red Dead Redemption 2 has a lot of catching up to do, but after its big PC launch it now boasts more than 29 million sales, nearly doubling the sales of its predecessor. While Red Dead Online had a bumpy start when it launched on consoles, Rockstar's managed to hammer it into something a lot more entertaining since then, with Take-Two saying it's "gaining momentum."

The high-flying roguelite Scourgebringer has a gourmet pizza recipe in its EULA
https://www.pcgamer.com/the-high-flying-roguelite-scourgebringer-has-a-gourmet-pizza-recipe-in-its-eula/
Scourgebringer was one of the games that fell victim to issues with a Steam update in 2019 that was intended to improve the platform's recommendations but, according to some developers, had the exact opposite effect. Thomas Altenburger of developer Flying Oak Games said at the time that the change was "a catastrophe," and that "our game literally disappeared from most sources of recommendations."
It was a very big bump in the road, but work continued, as it does, and the "fast-paced free-moving roguelite platformer" is now out on Steam Early Access. The game tells the tale of a great, mysterious machine that's brought the Scourge to the world and has resisted all efforts to explore or communicate with it. So, as these things usually go, the job now falls to you, in the guise of Kyhra, the deadliest warrior of her clan, who enters the Scourgebringer with sword and gun to lay a beatdown on everything she sees.

It's not a great time to be itching for a new real-time strategy diversion, unfortunately. There was the disappointing launch of Warcraft 3: Reforged last week, of course, and now intriguing co-op RTS A Year of Rain has been shelved, and the chances of it ever being returned to look slim.

Haunted PS1 Demo Disc is a free anthology of ominous oddities, out now
https://www.pcgamer.com/haunted-ps1-demo-disc-is-a-free-anthology-of-ominous-oddities-out-now/
Haunted PS1 Demo Disc isn't actually on a disc, nor does it contain any PS1 games. It's a collection of mostly—but not exclusively—horror games evocative of the '90s, complete with low-res textures, lots of fog and big ol' polygons. The collection can haunt your PC now, and it's free.

A lot weaker than the past couple of months for me. Debating whether to pause my sub for a month or not.

I don't recognize most of those games. I'd probably get Frostpunk and Okami (since I never got to play it).

My excitement for Humble went way down when they started doing these monthly things at the expense of the game bundles.

Bundle Stars (now Fanatical) really took up their slack though.

Borderlands 3 has shipped near 8 million units and The Outer Worlds over 2 million units. Which is very impressive for such a title and probably shows how much people wanted a decent Fallout like title.

Steam and CS:GO break all-time concurrent user records just days after they were last set
https://www.pcgamer.com/steam-and-csgo-break-all-time-concurrent-user-records-just-days-after-they-were-last-set/
Steam has managed to break its concurrent user record again after just one week.
On Sunday, February 9 at 14:10 GMT, a record 19,107,803 people were logged into Steam at the same time, blowing the previous record of 18,801,944 from February 2 out of the water. Steam user count records being broken so quickly is unheard of, as the record before February 2 was from all the way back in January 2018.
That surge of players has been good for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, as it too broke its own concurrent player record again after only two days. At around the same time as Steam broke its record on February 9, CS:GO saw an all-time high of 901,651 players.

MODS/EMULATORS

Vulkan API build for Yuzu the Nintendo Switch emulator is now available for download
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/vulkan-api-build-for-yuzu-the-nintendo-switch-emulator-is-now-available-for-download/
In case you missed it, the team behind one of the best and fastest growing emulators for the Nintendo Switch has made a public release of a build that can utilise the Vulkan API. While this version was initially the privilege of only patreon backers, it has now been made available for everyone.
The integration of a Vulkan back-end renderer is a big deal for two primary reasons. Firstly, the GPU in the actual Nintendo Switch is based on Nvidia architecture. Thus, gamers who wanted to play their Nintendo Switch games on an AMD GPU’s (and Intel’s embedded GPU’s) had to make do with very poor performance until now.
Secondly, from its announcement, the Vulkan API has always been built to compete with OpenGL. The Vulkan version is more efficient with multiple computing cores, featuring a more intuitive code. Now this is something which could be extremely useful when trying to emulate complex 3D games.

This 1GB mod brings over 100 high quality and balanced weapons to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/this-1gb-mod-brings-over-100-high-quality-and-balanced-weapons-to-the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim/
Modders Billyro, Drunkzealot and Zikoru have released a pretty cool mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition. Skyrim Weapons Expansion adds over 100+ new weapons, mostly swords, to crafting and leveled lists.
According to the modders, every weapon has been re-balanced to the vanilla game. Moreover, players will be able to craft, temper or breakdown recipes. Also, all weapons are of high quality, and originate from the vanilla weapon types.
Furthermore, the traditional leveled list plugin adds the weapons directly to the leveled lists. This allows for simple compatibility with other mods via bash/smash.
>> You can get this mod from Nexus Mods.

BlackcatGameStudio has released some new screenshots for its upcoming fan remake of Arx Fatalis in Unreal Engine 4. These new screenshots showcase the current state of this fan project, and we suggest checking them out.
Arx Fatalis Remake in Unreal Engine 4 will support both DirectX 12 and real-time ray tracing. Naturally, these latest screenshots showcase the Ray Tracing effects that the game will feature.
According to the team, there won’t be a demo for this fan remake. The reason behind this decision is quite simple. The team is currently trying to avoid any possible C&D letter.

Here's what Warcraft 3: Reforged looks like as a third-person RPG
https://www.pcgamer.com/heres-what-warcraft-3-reforged-looks-like-as-a-third-person-rpg/
Few are satisfied with Warcraft 3: Reforged at present, but despite some not-so business-as-usual fine print pertaining to mods and maps, people are modding and mapping anyway. Take modder Serj Vasylyshyn for example, who has built what may be the first publicly demo'ed RPG map with a third-person perspective.
Neither of those are new to Warcraft 3, of course - both RPG maps and third-person mods have existed for the original for ages, and in theory, most old mods should work with Reforged. But it's interesting nevertheless to see footage of Reforged running in third-person mode, as both videos below demonstrate.
