Forums - Microsoft Discussion - One more post on DRMs (but I aint't bashing)

ok so first, I'm not too worried about DRMs for myself since I will be buying everything digital next gen (if the day one digital release is true).... now that said  i have a couple questions just for my knowledge....first are we agreeing that gamestop will be very happy with that system since they will be on the select retailer list for resale of games on XB1 cutting of competition from direct sales between gamers on ebay or other pipelines if my second question doesn't happen????second wouldn't it be possible for MS to provide an online solution for gamers to untie a game to their account so they can resale the game freely??? if they can do it through gamestop it is not impossible to imagine they could provide the same solution to people directly on xbox.com or something???third and that is a wild one..... what if publisher could choose to distribute two version of a game.... one with DRM lockdown that needs a fee to be payed to be transfered and one being DRM lock free that you can trade freely.... the second one being more expensive to buy than the first one???I know that last one is highly inlikely to happen but I feel like it would be one of the best solution for everybody.... it would give the choice back to the customer.... either you know you gonna keep the game in which case you buy the cheaper one with DRM lock or you want to be able to trade it and buy the more expensive one DRM free....

here edited since it does work otherwise

this would be to confusing to the consumer. People are either going to buy it or not. PS4 will not be far behind like most would think. There is a lot of biased opinions out there right now. PS4 is riding the gravy train but for how long? This can't last forever and everyone who has looked at the number knows it.

I agree with you on 'question 1', yes they will be happy because sales they normally don't get because of free trading points (such as eBay) will no longer be used. However if they are upset of losing some of their profits to the publisher and developers by selling used games they may give gamers a worse deal on trade ins to keep their profits up.

I doubt they will do the 2nd, although it would be the best solution for gamers, it would allow gamers to sell their games on places like eBay so no money would goto the publisher (aka MS) or the developer in question. But there is no reason why they couldn't do that. Part of the 24 check is to log your game collection, if you 'log a game out of your collection', then it would be able to stop you playing it.

Games with DRM has been suggested as long as costs are reduced, there are many though that would still prefer to buyt the expensive one as if you can trade it in for £20 cash after buying it for £40, yet the DRM filled version is still £30 and you can't trade it in, really it's £20 (no DRM) vs £30 (DRM).

This is my take anyway.

Hmm, pie.
