Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo: Gamers growing tired of same experiences

I wonder if they will actually create new ips instead of making 100 Mario, Pokemon, and Zelda games a year. If not then they will be complete hypocrites.

yeah seriously, is there anything new these days? Mario, Halo, GTA, Resident Evil, Assasin's Creed, CoD/MW, tomb raider.

So much milking!

Whut? There are plenty of different gaming experiences out there. It's the gamer's fault for not playing them.

Isn't Nintendo going to face serious challenges if this is true, based on their rereleasing the same IP over and over and over?

This is a strange acknowledgement from a company that just released the 3DS and WiiU. Two systems who spec-wise cannot support any new level of gameplay (from a strictly power perspective) and who's unique abilities (3D/2nd screen) have also failed to create a new venue of gameplay or even a sense of such.

They have also been heavily reliant on old/classic IPs as of the last couple years (and we all know we'll be seeing 3D Mario, Zelda, Mario Kart, Smash Bros on WiiU even without any announcement of such).

Which new levels of gameplay were created when we jumped from the 6th to 7th Generation ? I´m genuinly curious !

User generated content is one of them.  What you saw with the likes of Call of Duty 4 is another one, adding RPG to FPS.  Online play fully came on its own.  The adding of DLC extended game life.  You also had achievements that got added.

New IP ≠ New Experience

A new IP can be an uninteresting clone of an existing franchise; likewise, an old IP need not repeatedly offer the same experience, but can be reinvigorated with fresh ideas.

Bioshock and Zelda are both great examples of fresh experiences in recurring IPs. New IPs that offer nothing new are a dime a dozen.

Pokémon is largely the same experience, but you can't really argue with those sales. Likewise with Call of Duty and such.

Funny thing is I kinda like where Nintendo is.  I buy their systems when they're cheap and they have those games I know I'll love.  I buy Sony systems at launch for new IP and returning ones from studios I love.  I'm not buying 3DS until Pokemon and not WiiU until Mario Kart, Zelda, 3D Mario, and SSB and $200.  PS4 I'll buy at launch and get most multiplats as well as first party on.
