I was without a Smartphone until December of last year.
Got a Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE
As a 23 year old supposedly that's unheard of or something for it to be my first smartphone at my age.

Samsung galaxy ace 2
Pretty good for a budget phone I guess
Samsung phones are great if you are into rooting and flashing ROMs. They generally have great performance hardware wise but Samsung software slows it to a crawl. If you don't care about that stuff I suggest phones with lighter software, such as Nexus phones and Sony phones to a lesser degree. Lumia 620 and HTC 8S are also good phones if you are OK with WP.
To answer the question, the feature phones are already going extinct. There are some Windows Phone 7 smartphones from Nokia that are really, really cheap (they have limited availability in Mexico etc. as far as I know). In a few years all phones will be smartphones.
No, I own a regular phone that I do not even pay for. Family insists that I have one though. I might get a smartphone soon but I still will not pay from my own pocket.

Though I do agree that you can get smartphones for dirt cheap/free with contracts, I'm not really sure that the transition to all smartphones will be that fast. There seems like a decent sized market that prefer flip phones mainly to save money(data plan etc). Then there are people with 3/4g tablets and flip phones.
I don't throw away my old phones. I just keep them stored away. My first smart phone. Was a Nokia with Symbian when it was new. Had browser 3G it was possible to stream stuff or download things. Was pretty much a full smartphone already. Just a tiny display with low res and sucky OS.
So I have accumulated maybe half a dozend smartphones over the years from Apple Samsung Nokia.
But over the years I grew tired of phones. I don't use much of the features anyway and they look all the same so I couldn't even tell if a Phone is new or old anymore.
All I want is a good big Display and a good battery.
I recently upgraded to Galaxy Note 2 and its amazing. The size isnt much of an issue as some reviewers claim and the S-Pen is well integrated into its features; I thought it was going to be gimmicky but they really pulled it off.
The new Sony badger really turned my head recently though. Lovely wee phone that
