I am trying to figure out what the baseline is for sales of PS4 and 720, based purely on the online communities. To do this I have taken the top multiplayer games that represent each genre (shooter, racing and sports) from the previous generation:
PS3 - 12.66m (COD:MW3) + 8.85m (GT5) + 6.33m (Fifa 12) = 27.84m
360 - 14.89m (COD:MW3) + 5.36m (FM3) + 4.53m (Fifa 13) = 24.78m
I'm only going for one from each as I am assuming there would be a lot of overlap within genre. I'm not really sure how to account for overlap between genres, so any advice would be appreciated. Also, let me know if I have missed something.
My assumption is that for players who game online significantly, switching consoles is less of an option as you would lose the people you game with. Could all gamers who play these (or similar) online games please answer the poll. I want to use this to scale down the above numbers.
