It looks like 90% of every anime character I have ever seen before

That doesn't typically stop people from buying a good game, fortunately.

I'd beg to differ.  Outside of Japan these games sell next to nothing for the most part disregarding a few games like Final Fantasy.  They are generic and most people can't tell the difference.  This stuff is popular in Japan but once again the market is flooded with these generec characters and I'd even argue that many anime games like this fails in Japan as well and can not reach mainstream.  If you can't differintiate yourself then most likely you will see little to no success.  The only reason this stuff is able to get away with it is most likely many games like this does not have a high budget so they really don't need to sell extremely well.

That looks really good looking forward to it, glad this series localization has been a constant.

Hype!
I am looking forward to this game, it seems they are changing things in this entry. Graphics are getting better and better and the 6 party people is a welcome addition; the same with having two characters in the story

3DS FC :  4339 - 3326 - 7693. Add me :) Nickname Tin

I'd appreciate if you'd stop offending other people's tastes, this series has a respectable amount of fans in these forums and its a long enough time running series that keeps improving over time in terms of quality. If you despise these kinds of games maybe you should just leave the thread.

These games don't need to reach mainstream to see success. They've made a lot of these Atelier titles already...

That said, what are some non-generic Japanese designs in your opinion?

Pretty much what I just said. i underlined and bolded both me and your statements.

Pretty much all of this.  Just have to type anime in image to find how generic anime has become.  There are ones that stand out but for the most part a lot of them are generic.  NOt saying all of them, I'm saying a lot.

EDIT: oops forgot the link haha

He said it doesnt stop people from buying a good game.  I'd say yes it does.  Games that does not stand out usually see little success.    They dont need to sell millions to make a profit because they are not big budget games but you arent going to see people rushing out buying games that are not any different.  Not saying this game in particular.  This goes to the entire industry.

The Japanese notice a difference because it's something they're into...pretty much how Japan looks at western games and thinks they're all the same as well. The reason you're looking at sales of 200-300k for these games is because the gameplay is extremely niche. It has nothing to do with the characters.
