Will the PS4 be a revolution to the industry?

Forums - Sony Discussion - Will the PS4 be a revolution to the industry?

Do you believe that it will be something that will change the console market and industry?

to early to say

Not really. It looks like a great console and im sure it will be successful but many things that they are doing has been done before. Even sharing was already done by Onlive. Onlive was very interesting but the problem lays with the fact that people's internet is just not good enough for a lot of the stuff that they are doing. That is something galkai is going to have issues with. For the people who can use it are going to love it but there will be tons that cant use it.

Anyways why is it suppose to be revolutionary exactly? The last revolutionary thing that happened to the industry was motion controls and to many that could have hurt the industry as much as it has helped

I don't see it changing the whole console market. It is more in line with a traditional console with tons of features that have been done by others, which is excellent imo. It could end up as a really good console. It' isn't going to be the wii and usher in the age of motion control gaming or anything like that though.

i think no right now.
it looks like a beast of a console and i can't wait to get one! but it depends after launch what the 'Revolution' is. i not want some rubbish control meathod as its not revolutionary, its gimmicky. for me the only Revolution is gameplay. i see the PS3 as a Revolution but the reality is it was an Evolution of Tech. it was just such a huge jump it seemed Revolutionary.

I see it as more refinement. It'll be the social console they tried to shoehorn the PS3 into being and give devs the usual boost in power to do what they want. If it does do something revolutionary, get cloud gaming up to snuff so as to eliminate the need for future consoles almost entirely in the major regions at least, that will be more of a product of the countries' infrastructure improving than Sony's console's abilities.

Get Your Portable ID!Lord of Ratchet and Clank

Duke of Playstation Plus

Warden of Platformers

Nope. Its not bringing anything revolutionary and the main selling point is probably the improved graphics which every next generation console brings. And from what we know about the 720 so far, that won't be revolutionary either but I can't say anything about that yet.

motion control was done tons of times prior to the wii and it still changed the industry.  as it has been discussed a million times before, it's not really who does it first but who makes it popular.

OT - maybe.  not so much the hardware but the services surrounding it (gaikia) that has a chance to be revolutionary.  i fully expect something similar from MS but if this truely is the "last gen" and it transitions gaming into being a service not a machine then the word revolutionary will be required to describe it.
