Forums - Sony Discussion - Pachter: PlayStation 3 Price Cut Likely This Week

A pricecut right now would be a dumb idea. Nothing is threatening PS3s sales position right now. They can ride it out until PS4 comes out.

Around the Network

Not sure what the US price for the PS3 is at the moment, but in the UK, the new Flash PS3 model was selling with Skylanders Giants for £150 before Xmas, and seems to be selling well in the EU and JP compared to the US, so maybe a good pricecut in the US would help up sales.

Prediction (June 12th 2017)

Permanent pricedrop for both PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro in October.

PS4 Slim $249 (October 2017)

PS4 Pro $349 (October 2017)

The cheapest SKU in the US is $269.99, with Uncharted 3.  They actually went up from the the $249.99 price of the last Slim, which got that price in late 2011, so they are overdue.  I'm thinking they'll wait til after March, and their financial report, to drop the price.  Though, I wouldn't be surprised if they did it earlier.  The Super Slim has got to be selling at quite a decent profit, so it wouldn't become a loss, just less profit.  It would also be the final nail in the 360/PS3 gap, and help the PS3 get ahead of the 360 within a couple of quarters.

from the way sales are going the ps3 doesnt need a price cut to pass the 360 in the next couple of quarters

ps4 announced confirmed. I really hope it isn't a price cut. I want to see Sony's offering for the current generation!
