"Once the dominant smartphone and tablet seller, Apple has faced challenges on both fronts."

Uh what? Last I checked they are still dominant...

For tablets, yes I think they're still dominant. For smartphones, nope. I'm pretty sure Samsung sells more smartphones these days.

Quantity vs. Quality.

Apple makes 1 new iPhone a year that competes against dozens(hundreds) of Samsung Android-powered phones. Who is the real winner here?

The statement you quoted says "Once the dominant smartphone and tablet seller...". Dominant seller = who sells more smartphones. So in this case it is all about quantity, and as I said, I'm prettty sure Samsung sells more smartphones.

EDIT: It actually says in the article "...while the Galaxy S lineup of smartphones recently edge out the iPhone for the smartphone market crown." So Samsung is selling more smartphones.

That was pre-iPHone 5 dude. Again. whoever wrote that article loves to spin stuff to make Apple look bad.

I hope they've peaked. I don't hate Apple (I just bough an Iphone 5), but I've never been a fan and have disliked the way they operate.

Samsung still sold more smartphones in 2012 (27% for Samsung vs. 18% for Apple):

Apple was doomed the moment the genius Steve Jobs passed away. They really need to step their game up if they want to stay relevant 10 years from now.

They say "weak demand", I say "they still sell millions". Hopefully iPhones get cheaper. This decline should be warning enough for them to stop fucking around with samsung and android!

Xbox One, PS4 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)

Last week I read that they were considering a cheaper version of the Iphone to gain more customers especially in developing countries, so maybe they are trying to make up for the fall in demand for their high end Iphone 5.

That doesn't sound like something Apple would do. But who knows, since Steve isn't here anymore Apple has made their own decisions.

cool story bro, though apple reportedly shipped 52 million iphones last quarter

This news have some odd thing because all the news about Apple this week talk about the same thing:

- Strong iPhone 5 sales
- Low iPad sales due supply issues

http://appleinsider.com/articles/13/01/17/iphone-5-sales-strong-but-ipad-supply-issues-affected-apples-holiday-quarter---report
http://news.yahoo.com/weak-ipad-supply-could-offset-strong-iphone-5-190016903.html

The analysts seem to agree with near 50 million units iPhone sold in the holiday quarter.
