Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony Won't Release PS4 until 2014 and It Won't Be a Gimped Console.

I seriously believe that Sony won't release their next console until 2014 and that it won't be a gimped console  (ie. that it won't be as many people claim  just an incremental upgrade over Wii U) but that like PS3 it will be more of a future proof console with more advanced tech under the hood.

What leads me to believe this?  The fact that PS3 is still the Number One selling console in the world on a regular basis now almost every week.  Sony's simply going to want to take advantage of that fact to get more of their exclusives into more homes and to begin to make more of a profit on PS3.  However, the most important reason in my opinion that we won't see PS4 in stores in 2013 is that Sony's not going to release it until after the Playstation 3 has finally passed the Xbox 360 and in my estimation that won't happen until sometime in 2014.

Why don't I think the PS3 will only be an incremental leap over the Wii U ( in effect just 2 to 4 times more powerful as many say it has to be due to Sony's "desperate financial situation")?  Because Sony is going to want to have the next games in series like "Uncharted", "The Last of Us", or "Beyond:  Two Souls" look just as stunning compared to their PS3 iterations as PS3 games looked in comparison to PS2 games.  That always seems to work out best for Sony in the long run ie. see how PS3 has become this console generation's best selling console at the end of the 7th gen.  So, as far as power in comparison to Wii U, I really think that at the very least it will be comparable to the horsepower difference between Playstation Vita and the 3DS which some estimates say is about 10x that of the 3DS ( http://www.gizmag.com/playstation-vita-nintendo-ds-buyers-guide/22545/ ).

So for the reasons listed above as well as Jack Tretton's statement that Sony has never been first or the cheapest (  http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-06-06-sony-on-ps4-weve-never-been-first-weve-never-been-cheapest-its-about-being-the-best) made at last year's E3, I'm not expecting PS4 to launch until the Holiday Season 2014.

I think Sony may learn a bit from their initial pricing of PS3 and that it won't cost $600 at launch; however, I still think you'll see PS4 be the very biggest beast that it can be for $500.00 at Christmas 2014 with a decent launch lineup posssibly including God of War 5 ( the one after Ascension), GT6, or Uncharted 4 as its launch title.

it will be released in 2013, i'll come back in 9months to say HAHA I TOLD YOU

I hope so but I disagree.

Sony is doing everything to relase the new console this year.

Well the Wii U is out so we've solved the first part. I guess the PS4 will retail for more than $299 OR they expect a Wii U price cut so the cheapest is probably solving itself.

By the way if they aren't releasing the PS4 in 2013 then why the heck are they releasing every single big title they have in the first part of 2013 with a huge blank space towards the end of the year? So not only are they not releasing a PS4 they aren't releasing any really big titles either to compete with the launch of the Xbox Next OR Nintendo's big titles?

Tease.

Sony doesn't care about selling more than 360 they care about profits. And the ps4 won't be a beast it will be stronger than wiiU (2-3x) but they won't take a risk making massive losses again thanks to their bad financial situation.

I wouldn't say that they're releasing every Big Title in the first part of 2013.  Just taking a cursory glance at IGN's list of upcoming 2013 games, they have many games that are still TBA 2013 including "Beyond:  Two Souls", "Until Dawn", "The Puppeteer", and of course games like "The Last Guardian" are still out there.

I think they care very much about 360 and winning the distinction of being the bestselling of the HD Twins.  They also care about technology.  They're going to want games like the follow up to "Heavy Rain" and "Beyond:  Two Souls" to be as technologically advanced and as photorealistic as it can be ie. a dramatic, polished improvement over the first two.

What does this matter and how does it make it the most important reason? No really, I genuinely don't understand, do they want to advertise as being the 2nd most popular console of last gen so you should buy a ps4?

Also why can't they continue to profit from the ps3 after the ps4 launch? Ps3 may even outsell the ps4/xb3 early on.

PS4K will be a beast and most definitely a huge leap above the Wii U. Sony can already go head to head with Nintendo's system for the time being with the money making PS3. Meanwhile the PS4K will be slowly gaining sales from the hardcore crowd with its loses balenced out by the PS3. This could work great if Microsoft's console is only 2-3x more powerful than the Wii U. However if XBOX8 is comparable to the PS4K and we have a similar setup as the 6th gen then this could really mess with Sony's plan. It's definitely a gamble, but all signs point to this being their strategy.
