SNES is the only good answer to this question. There's Chrono Trigger, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Final Fantasy VI, Final Fantasy IV, Secret of Mana, Super Metroid, Super Mario Kart, Super Mario World, Star Fox, Donkey Kong Country 1,2,3, Super Punch Out!!, Super Castlevania IV, Yoshi's Island, Mega Man X series, Street Fighter II, Super Mario RPG, E.V.O. Search For Eden, Illusion of Gaia, etc...

My choices:

First, ignoring the time frame - the PS3.  It's a graphical powerhouse.  The games are just incredible.  It got me back into gaming after a long hiatus.

Second, taking time into account - The Sega Genesis.  I loved the controller - to this day, that 6 button controller remains my favourite -  and the experience when playing sporting or fighting games was unmatched.

Third, the SNES.  So many good games, as TruckOSaurus listed above.  The Secret of Mana was one of my all time favourite games.

That Genesis/SNES generation was a golden age.  I couldn't get through all of the great games that were available.

DS Lite. It had the awesome GBA library and the DS library, in my opinion, the two best libraries in gaming consoles ever.

SNES = Console

PSP = Portable

Cause of great experiences with RPGs.

Nintendo Gamecube - Resident Evil 0, Remake, 4, Mario Sunshine, Smash Bros Melee, Double Dash, and Paper Mario were all so damn awesome.

Super Nintendo - Mario All Stars, Super Mario World & Yoshi Island, and Donkey Kong Country 1-3 all are in my favorite all-time list of games.

Gameboy Advance/SP/Micro (own them all) - Best handheld of all time imo.

Gaming on: PS4 Pro, Switch, SNES Mini, Wii U, PC (i5-7400, GTX 1060)

IMHO, PlayStation 2 had the best library of any console.  There are too many games to list, but strong 1st party showings like God of War and Team Ico games coupled with an abundance of outstanding 3rd party games like MGS2, MGS3 and the GTA's made the system so accessable.  That and JRPGs were actually both groundbreaking and fun.

I haven't bought many games for my PS3 (even though it is a solid system and no slouch in the game library department either), and I find myself blaming PS2 a lot.  Just think of the games I listed and their current generation counterparts and despite what metacritic says, the new games just don't have the soul and fun factor that came with PS2 installments (for me anyway).  And don't even get me started on JRPGs failing to coexist with the western market this gen.

PS2 all the way!
