Forums - Sales Discussion - Update 9: New Super Mario Bros. 2 sales on the North American eShop

Not full results, but still! NSMB 2 is currently the 17th best selling eShop title on the eShop, right behind Mutant Mudds! Now some may dismiss this as saying not many titles on the eShop sales all that well, but it is still moving up quite a bit compared to other titles.

In case people want to know, Excitebike is currently the 11th best selling eShop title as of today. Now I don't know how much it is exactly sold, but this should give us a clearer picture as it is closest to Let's Golf 3D, which is number 10. Let's hope it reaches the top ten soon!

North American eShop, by the way!

Has nothing to do with sales, but the game does have a high rating!

This is where you go to check the charts. It's title that says "Charts".

Now just choose which platform to check

Check it out!

Other sales.

And the Top 3! Pushmo, Kirby's Adventure, and Kid Icarus!

Update: NSMB 2 is now ranked 14th! And Excitebike is now ranked 10th! I will update with a photo later as soon as possible.

Update 2 (8/31/2012): Now it's number 13! Now it has to outsell VVVVVV, then it can be under Let's Golf 3D!

Update 3 (9/02/2012): This is incredible... it is now number 12! Three days after I posted the last update too! I believe it is selling gangbusters on the eShop now! In this is only two weeks too!

Update 4 (9/03/2012): Guys, prepare to have your mindblowns... because this game has just outsold Let's Golf 3D! I am not lying here, it now number 11 on the eShop!

Major Update: I didn't fully read the article and didn't realize this is based on revenue, so now my information is off. Good news is that it is still moving up on the charts. Bad news, we no longer have a set number on how exactly it's doing now. I'll still update this thread on it's processing and hopefully it'll reach the Top 20 in All Software soon!

Update 5 (9/8/2012): Alright, it is now number 10! Quite an achievement and hope it goes on!

Update 6 (9/22/2012): New Super Mario Bros. 2 has outsold Dillion's Rolling Western! As you guess, it is now number 9!

Update 7 (10/5/2012): The game is now number 8 passing Mighty Switch Force!

Update 8 (10/24/2012): Nintendo has confirmed that the game has sold 3.25 million WW including digital.

Update 9 (01/13/2013): Not sure if anybody remembers this thread, but finally a new update is among us! NSMB 2 has finally made it to the Top 20 All Software charts! Passing Xevious 3D (which was offered as a Club Nintendo reward once)! It is now number 6 on the 3DS charts and number 20 on the All Software Charts! Way to go, Mario!

Wait, how did you get 500k digital alone?

Edit: Ah, I see. But what has the number 1 title sold if excite bike has 500k and is #1? The current rankings are most likely not overall rankings.

The article is just for 2011. That means Pushmo had enough time to sell more than 500k (I do not know the full number, but the 3DS has a large enough userbase), plus these are overall sales LTD on the eShop.

We don't know how many weeks are taken into account when this sales chart is compiled. Could be just last week or last four weeks (more likely), for example. This really doesn't tell us much other than people clearly prefering to buy the boxed version. I don't think that this #17 amounts to more than a few thousand downloads.

I don't think this is weeks. The photo was just taken today, plus the eShop updates every few hours. NSMB 2 has been on sale for 5 days.

So the eShop is basically bigger than Xbox Marketplace in NA or what? If the title at #11 has already sold 500k after just one year, I'd say that was a huge accomplishment. So many above 1m? This is why I don't believe the rankings are based on overall sales.

Hard to Believe that there is anything bigger than Xbox Marketplace on Console business.

Minecraft must be closing on 4M right now on Xbox.

Well, I checked the European eShop and you can filter by "recent bestsellers" and "all bestsellers" as well as the categories 3DS, DSi and Virtual Console, so this should be overall sales rankings. However, aside from the estimates of some analyst we have no data points to work with. And since it's coming from an analyst, I am using "data point" very loosely.

Btw, filtering by "3DS, all bestsellers" doesn't show NSMB2 in the top 20 of the European eShop and that's how far the list goes.

In any case, don't expect big download numbers for NSMB2 in either region. At least the game got a five stars rating in both regions.

What number is it on the eShop only section?

4487 five star ratings out of 5044 total, not too bad.

So what do you guys think the numbers are right now?

My prediction: +100k
