By the way, yes this was taken from Neogaf. I just wanted to post this.
So, you remember that we had a dumb thread about Monster Hunter for Vita.
It was later noted repeatedly that this was obviously a PC game given FRAPS, and that it seemed to be a Monster Hunter clone by Tencent judging by recent poorly translated rumors and statements.
However, I went back and looked at the poorly translated statements and rumors today, along with some of the incredible similarities and Capcom's previous statements, and felt we should have a discussion about whether this is just a clone or actually a real, licensed Monster Hunter product.
Anyway, here's a gallery of evidence of varying quality for weighing in on either direction.

First, the poorly translated rumor. Normally I don't like using such things, but honestly this is the best we have, and interestingly it dates back to February 2012. Before you ask, no, unfortunately there is no original Chinese version to my knowledge.
It's worth noting that the site that posted the images also mentioned Tencent.

Capcom is a secret Tencent joint development of “Monster Hunter OL”
January 10 at Billboard awards ceremony Tencent game “Legend of the Father” said Yao Zhuang constitution, Tencent is developing “Monster Hunter OL”. Yao Zhuang constitution, said in the roundtable session, 2011, Tencent is most concerned about product development, adapted from the handheld platform, the famous game “Monster Hunter OL”, but do not know whether the successful launch in 2011. Site moderator did not directly answer the question Yao cents, only that this issue needs at the ceremony by the same mutual entertainment scene Tencent Cheng Wu vice president replied, but after the presentation session, the issue was forgotten by Tencent, No one responded. Secondly, Capcom has been stating they want to push into the Asian PC market for quite some time.
It's worth noting that they have announced at least one of these as being developed in cooperation with a local company, and that this strategy was announced several years ago.

While Capcom is a bit timid about the PC game space here in the West (most of their games get released for the PC platforms months after they first appear on consoles) the publisher seems to be very interested in the PC game industry over in Asia. In a new financial report, Capcom says they are looking to expand in the PC game space, especially in China. Capcom has had success in Japan with their PC game Monster Hunter Frontier Online. According to their document they want to release PC games for Korea, Taiwan and China. They are supposedly working on something called Mega Man Online with Korean-based Neowiz but no details have been announced. http://news.bigdownload.com/2010/05/...eases-in-asia/ |

Question: How else should Japan’s gaming industry globalize? Inafune: It’s actually too late to start entering the U.S. market now. That will take years. The next big market is China. My sights are on Asia. We need to learn from Korea. We need to go to China. Japan is isolated in the gaming world. If something doesn’t change, we’re doomed. http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/0...game-designer/ |

Thirdly, at one point Tencent was rumored to be in charge of bringing Monster Hunter Frontier to China. I'm not sure if that ever happened, but it is conceivable they decided to extend their partnership to actually developing a new product given Tencent's development strength and endless hordes of money.

Fourthly, well, quite frankly the game just looks so much like Monster Hunter that it feels like it would almost run into legal problems in its official form. I mean, that is pretty much 100% that popular poster child Monster Hunter monster in one of the images.

Finally, Tencent has been expanding aggressively in the West, including publishing deals and partnerships. A Monster Hunter game on PC backed by a company with huge PC successes such as League of Legends would help Capcom push the brand in the West in addition to China. While I have not seen the numbers myself, it is stated quite often in the PAL threads that Monster Hunter 3 did very well in Germany, which is notably an incredibly strong PC market. I feel there is quite a bit of synergy potential here.

So, what do people think? Could this actually be an official Monster Hunter project developed by Tencent? Capcom certainly hasn't had issues with farming their brands out to foreign countries before, even ones as important as Resident Evil (to D-Tier studios no less), and judging by the leaked screenshots this one would actually be a product of very high effort.
