Forums - Sales Discussion - Choosing the wrong console?

You're right - finally read all his post and it seems he never had the PS2.

Blasphemy!! The greatest console created and you never own it? And you call yourself a gamer?

You know what? Skip the Wii/360 and get yourself a PS2 - it's $ 129 and you get the greatest gaming library in the world. Plus, most of the games are budget priced right now so you get the best games of world at cheap prices.

I think buying PSP over PS2 is one of your mistakes for last gen. More expensive and much much less games only for something slightly portable than PS2? Does not compute....

The problem is when you buy a console for just that game you really want. You could get unlucky. Each console will have games that you like. But it can turn out that there is not much choice.  For example DOA3 on Xbox well Soul Calibur and that's it. While looking at PS2 VF4 Tekken DOA2 Soul Calibur. But buying it for Halo is a good choice, because of  the many FPS.

This generation games libery will be more balanced. Although PS3 will get more RPG/action and 360 gets still most FPS.

I still consider the Dreamcast to have been the "right option": got more than my money's worth. Ditto the N64, Xbox, etc.

If I'd invested $600 in a PS3 to play Motorstorm for the next 5 years however I'd probably feel differently

If you bought a PS3 for Motorstorm for the Next 5 years? Motorstorm is a fun game but In my opinion it's not even the best game for the PS3 right now. So I am confused why would you only play Motorstorm for 5 years? Is all the games you buy for a System only the ones that come out in the 1st 5 months? but hey at least you admit that the PS3 will last longer (5yrs) than the X-box (well worth your money at a 4 year lifespan) . Lastly do you like Motorstorm or are you just thowing it out there? My guess is that within 5 years there will be a Motorstorm sequel even...Along with about 1000 other games.

How annoying is it when you choose the wrong option?

Firstly I'll keep you informed of my buying habits for computers and gaming systems.

I bought an Amiga A1200 when they came out at around £450, a great computer that could play great games, I really should have bought a PC as I was studying Computing, but no, I chose the Amiga....well we all know what happened next.

I then bought a CD32 and only 6 months later Commodore went bankrupt...everything went down the tubes A1200 and all.

Next, a Playstation, what a buy, got a load of fun from the machine.

Then came the Dreamcast in December 2000, the PS2 was just out and a fortune, but the DC had Shemnue...that was the seller for me. Only 6 months later and Sega discontinued the console and retired from making systems...what a bummer. It was a great system with amazing graphics...Shemnue and DOA2 looked immense for 2000

So I just stuck with the DC and starting buying games when they were cheap (£5-£10) and amassed a 50+ title collection. I skipped the GC, PS2 and Xbox.

Then I heard about the PSP and I was determined not to pick up a system that would die only 6 months later. The DS looked cool and was much cheaper, but the PSP was a PS2 in my hand. Well I got one in December 2005 and still have it and love it. Although the DS has rushed ahead and gets loads more games, I still feel that the PSP will serve me well over the next 3-4 years.

Now, what next, the 360, Wii and PS3 are out. I like the look of all three but I will not be deciding on my console for a while yet. This time, I also want to get it right. I've not had much luck with my choice of console and although I want a PS3, I will not pay anywhere near the money they are asking for and not until there is a great selection of games available.

Have any of you guys had a similar experience?

My God Man go get a PS2... I had a Dreamcast too and had a ton of games (thanxs to the lack of anti-piracy tech in the DC) I too loved shenmue.

You might be the first person I ever heard of who bought a PSP and did not have a PS2. Hell get a PS2, with God of War,Shadow of the colossus,Final Fantasy X,X-men Legends games, Marvel ultimate alliance,Metal gear games, ect.  man and wait for the PS3 to drop.

Damn with all the games you missed on PS2 you could skip this gen altogether. There has never been a console as diversly supported as the PS2 there is something for everyone...And we wonder why it still outsells everyone... Trust me when i tell you it will be the best 129 dollars you ever spend

I have nver made the wrong choice

I agree whole-heartedly, with exception of the Xbox. I never got much life out of that console.

Between Halo2 and Splinter Cell games primarily I was happy: I went half w/ my brother so it wasn't too bad. If anything selection on Xbox only seems to have narrowed with the 360 however, unless you're into hardcore RPGs which I'm not...
