qwerty keyboard at the bottom and a name change for PS+. That's all I got from reading that.

so you agree with the keypad and PS+ part?

Well I'm not sure why the qwerty is better at the bottom. I find a qwerty keyboard crap anyway. Since a bluetooth keyboard+mouse is cheap now I'd actually just prefer that as it's vastly superior.

I actually like the name 'UnderGround'. But actually you're just suggesting they change what a service is called.

Well interesting ideas though Sony would be committing suicide to have all the features you talk about. Sony could not release a platform with Unreal4 capabilities and tablet or PSEye (Kinetic like Camera). I don't think Sony knows entirely what it going to do.

Last year we heard PS4 would release this year. I feel they likely began to think that way. However Sony realized the second Vita's launched in Japan a 2012 launch would be disastrous. With Nintendo slowly leaking features for WiiU tablet adding functionality monthly Sony wants to release a platform that can compete Cruz Nintendo.

I suspect PS4 will be around 10x the power of 360 the least possible power to support Unreal4. Retail at 400$ in winter 2012. I think a PSEye accessory will he available within a year of launch and compatibility with a Sony tablet will also he pushed. However both the camera and tablet will be optional peripherals with less support from Sony then Nintendo supports its tablet or Microsoft Kinetic.

I do not think Sony will take a loss on PS4 right now Vita's is not taking losses manufacturing wise. With Vita's in such trouble and Sony talking about reducing the amount of big console games developed annually. I doubt Sony will take any major risks.

Now we know rumour has it that Microsoft has a Vita's like controller in development. I don't think Sony will release a tablet controller. Vita can be used in conjunction with PS4 and I am betting by the time 2013 launch occurs Vita will retail at around 150$.

Sony is likely going to go after the core consumers Microsoft and Nintendo are in danger of losing. Say you have a core classic consumer who enjoys thebgood old controller will you buy a WiiU at 350$ with a tablet controller or an Xbox at 400$ with a kinetic and tablet controller being only 6x the power of the original 360. Or would you buy a PS4 for 400$ which is 10x the power of 360 state of the art Dual Shock 4 and a Vita (Tablet) and EyeToy (kinetic) both optional.

Sony is in their best position to avoid competition with Nintendo and Microsoft. Focus on the classic old school hardcore consumer. Sony has earned a reputation of graphical power with PSP, PS3, PSVita and with PS4 Sony should he able to secure a more powerful piece of hardware without needing to lose a dime all while doing better then last generation.

Hmmm i dont think an upgraded PS3 will do the trick, which is pretty much what you suggesting

no, i think PS4 having a low price from the start will mainly do the trick ;)

That might have worked to an extent on the ps3 but the ps4 doesnt have the same things going for it.

??

what do you mean "PS4 doesnt have the same things going for it"??

ok, tell me exactly what PS3 had going for it back when it launched in

do you remember how bad Sony was getting hammered by the media because of the PS3?

what exactly do you mean by the bolded though?

Specs:

CPU: Some sort of upgraded/multi-core CELL processor or an i7 quad-core processor. Either @ around 3.4GHz.

GPU: Based on the GTX 580.

RAM: 2GB vRAM, 2-4GB Main RAM.

I put very similar specs into games-debate.com to see if it could run Battlefield 3. This build can run it at high settings at 1080p, keep in mind this is without optimization/clever coding.

I think this could launch for $400, possibly less but I doubt it because of SONYs financial situation at the moment.

Controller(s):

Dualshock 4 - keep the base design of the Dualshock 3, replace R2/L2 with triggers, make it 5-10% larger. Maybe add a rear touchpad  somehow, depending on what devs to with it on VITA. Ditch sixaxis to keep costs down. Maybe put keypad on the bottom on the controller (between the handles).

Motion controls: MOVE 2, Upgraded EYETOY (which would be an upgraded Kinect).

UI:

Refined XMB, take away the clutter, make it more attractive. Put focus the network section (3 icons on the far right), redesigned PSN (includes friends list, trophies, Store etc.)

Does Battlefield 3 look anything like the Samaritan Demo on its highest settings??

Hmm, it doesn't look quite as good, but it's not that far off. Maybe later in it's lifecycle and with heavy optimization we'll see games on-par with that. Note when I say this can produce BF3 @ high settings level graphics I meant launch titles, look at a PS3 launch title compared to Uncharted 3.

Here's BF3 running at high settings (I struck gold aswell since it's running on a PC with specs similar to what I said) and it looks gorgeous: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JamgfqOfoNE Skip to the 3 minute mark to get to some gameplay, watch in HD for full effect.

i just think that it would've been better on the bottom of the controller and the majority of people that i know agreed with me.

and yea, that's EXACTLY what i was suggesting. I DEEPLY like the name more than PS Plus

I mean the service would be the same for the most part(excluding the new stuff the Sony would of course add on PS4)

the only feature i really named that might be expensive is the 6 GB Ram. 320 GB HDD shouldn't cost much at all being that there are consoles out today that have them. It's not like i said a SSD or something.

and im not sying that i want the tablet or BIG PSEye to launch bundled with the ps4 or anything like that. Im just saying that they should have them around and maybe offer some of them in seperate higher end bundles at $500 just in case while the $400 PS4 is bundled with just the DualShock 4

Last year we heard PS4 would release this year.

you got any links? i thought the only console rumoured to hit 2012 besides WII U was the 720??

With Nintendo slowly leaking features for WiiU tablet adding functionality monthly Sony wants to release a platform that can compete Cruz Nintendo.

yea and this is exactly why Sony is not going to talk about PS4 at E3 2012. Microsoft is most likely going to show 720 and Nintendo is going to show the final Wii  console while Sony will watch what is shown and save PS4 for Tokyo Game Show

and i dont know why you think that PS4 will be more powerful if they launch at a profit. This is a competitive market. I dont even see microsoft launching at a profit because of course Microsoft and Sony are going to try to outdue each other for the most part

and i honestly see microsoft shooting for whatever specs it would take to run the Samaritan Demo simply because it's Epic Games

and do you know what is required to run the Samaritan Demo?? i always thought that you would need atleast like a $500 console to run it but idk too much about that stuff though..

I'm honestly expecting something along the lines of the PS2. $299 at launch, nothing too gimmicky, strong launch lineup; faster blu-ray drive; improved GPU but not as big a leap as the PS3 was for the PS2; keep it insanely easy to develop for like they apparently have done with the Vita; retain Move support as a control scheme for those that wish to use it with the occasional Move exclusive; allow DS3 controllers to still work with the PS4 along with DS4 type controls that may just have fixed up L2/R2 triggers and the ability to switch the position of the dpad and left analog stick at will. Refinements to PSN would be nice also, as to what those refinements could be I wouldn't really know.

PS4 should be all about the games as well as a refined online experience. Not like PS3 wasn't but Sony need to get their IPs to sell at least as well as Microsoft's do. This could be merely because in a whole year all there was for Xbox owners was Gears of War 3 and Forza 4 in terms of retail exclusives and the year before that Fable 3, Alan Wake and Halo Reach, so naturally after heavy marketing they'd sell well, but I think Sony needs to market a hell of a lot better. A lot of people still don't know that Resistance 3 exists and too many of their exclusives sell purely via positive word of mouth like LBP1 and Heavy Rain.

Sony are in no financial position to innovate technologically and should stick to entertaining us with their vast library of games, genres and third party support as they did back with the PS1 and PS2. Also getting Crash back would be quite awesome, I don't believe Activision will let Spyro go so easily as the recent game was quite profitable with those toys. Wouldn't mind tuning in to E3 2013 during the Sony conference to see something along the lines of, 'Guess Who is Back?' then suddenly Crash Bandicoot PS4 launch title. I highly doubt that though.

Sorry if this is a tad hard to read, I couldn't be bothered editing it at this time of day.

well quite simply it had the success of the ps2 going for it...ps2(and in essence the sony playstation brand) had complete dominance over the console space. Naturally, the majority of those people wanted to upgrade to ps3.

This time around the ps4 and the sony playstation brand does not have that same following, or brand power.

I actually cant believe most of you guys here are suggesting sony release a beefed up ps3 as the ps4. Make no mistake, they will exit the console industry if they do this.

Sony needs to come up with a wildcard a X factor if you will, something that differentiates themselves from the competition and hopefully pushes them above them.

I must admit they are in a tight spot. Financially it doesnt really make sense to be innovative and risky but on the other hand...settling for mediocrity and playing it safe will pave the way for a slow death and a hostile loss to aggressive competition.

To make things worse the competition has bucket loads of money (talking mostly MS here) .
