Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony CEO Stringer just predicted PS3's failure!!!!

In a market that has grown a lot since the release of the Gamecube it is not a particularly good sign to have slightly outsold the Gamecube due to sales in one region ...

Shigeru Miyamoto, a man that has become synonymous with video games, is a real humble Nintendo employee. I remember watching a biopic on him and he really isn't earning anything astounding, as a matter of fact, he only earns a little more than he did when he first joined Nintendo.

As was said, Howard Stringer probably has the top two floors of a building complex overlooking Tokyo. Doubt he would be as humble or noble as Miyamoto.

The days of comparing the PS3 to the failcube are over. Ninendo fans need to move on from that, Europe has put the PS3 above that.

You are absolutely right. You shouldn't compare a console that was profitable to one that is not. Until the PS3 starts to make money it shouldn't be compared to a console that actually turned a significant profit. Great point Jhlennon1.

Are they bitter tears that the PS3 is kicking the **** out of the Failcube making Nintendo fans comparisons look retarded? Poor little Nintendo fan. My apologies. Lets post a petition against Europe to stop buying PS3's!!!!!!

After all, this is a sales discussion last I checked. Nice try though, please come again, and hopefully try harder with the Failcube.

Oh come on people! This thread is just a silly joke about how some Sony CEO's corporate PR speech had an amusing contradiction in it. I'd laugh if anyone said that.

So when is the $100 price drop this year going to happen?

Well, looking at this chart :

http://vgchartz.com/hwlaunch.php?cons1=GC&reg1=All&cons2=PS3&reg2=All&cons3=PS3&reg3=All&weeks=104

The victory of the PS3 is less impressive than you would want to believe; the PS3 ended up having its holiday sales several months earlier than the Gamecube did and Sony has done everything in their power to boost PS3 sales. Certainly, the PS3 is selling better than the Gamecube did but I would hardly classify it as " kicking the **** out of it" ...

By the way, calling it the "Failcube" demonstrates a level of immaturity that you probably don't want people to associate with you.

i rate this thread -5/10

I call it a failcube because this is a blatant troll thread. Howard Stringer was positive about the PS3 yet it's spun into a total negative. And I wasn't the one who started the BS GC comparisons. Nintendo fans like to talk trash, they dish it out like crazy, therefore they should expect it to get ugly when they present their arguments in an idiotic manner.

And to the link you just posted, I see a 30-40week different to where the PS3 is now and how long it took the GC to get there. That is quite impressive when you consider how much the PS3 will be come that time. Lets do another comparison then, shall we? We will see the effect of GTAIV, MGS4, Tekken 6 etc... all in that time. Should be quite interesting.

First, GGE is quite smart with finding this contradiction in the interview. Because the CEO IS using a strategy which he later says has failed in another market. However, it is very far fetched and definitely intended to make many people go off here. For me, this qualifies as a troll post.

However, did any of you actually catch what the CEO was saying? "The price is expensive but it comes down $100 every year." Does that mean we are to expect another price drop of 100 USD in 2008? That would be quite fantastic, IMO.

GGE!??!!?!?? I found the contradiction not GGE.

I wondered how long people would notice that he was saying every year implying a 2008 drop of $100.

And, I wasn't exactly trolling, I was pointing out that by his logic for why plasma screens failed the ps3 would fail as well.  If anyone thinks that I was lamblasting the ps3 they need to reread what the CEO said and ignore the fact that the ps3 is involved and just look at what is being said:

Product X failed because it's price dropped too fast.

...

Our product Z is coming down in price $100 a year!

If a Nintendo CEO had said it (with the same circmstances) I'd have made a topic about it.
