So at last Sony gets an accepted format, about time imo. They've lost dominance in the console department, but seem to be growing and gaining in others. Good for them!

At last? Sony and Philips were the two main companies behind the CD, much like Sony and Panasonic are the big guys behind Blu-Ray. There are other accepted formats that Sony has had a major hand in as well, such as the 3.5 in. floppy disc.

The whole "Sony formats = Beta" stereotype is really a bunch of BS.

Thanks for reminding me, I forget sometimes! But I think it's great that some things are going their way at least, they've had a few downers the last 2-3 years.

Yeah, Stringer has really turned the company around.

It's somewhat ironic, though.  Before Stringer came along, the company was in a downward spiral, and SCE was one of the few profitable part of the company.  Now, after he's been with the company a few years, almost every division is making a profit, and their TVs are selling particularly well, but the ps3 is in last place in the video game market.

I wonder if betting everything on the HDM horse will work out for them.  Theoretically, a burgeoning Blu-Ray market would rake in tons of profit, but enough to offset the lagging ps3?  Also, will Blu-Ray winning the format war lead to an upshoot in ps3 sales?  If the ps3 does begin to take off in '08, because of Blu-Ray and big name exclusives (Tekken 6, MGS4, GT5, etc.), then they could end up very well off.

It makes me wish I had stock in Sony. :(

LordTheNightKnight: it would seriously help the readability of the thread if you stop copying half of the thread in your postings.

What other (realistic) options do you see?

First of all, why are you just calling me out for quote trains?

Second, I alread mentioned HD-DVD could drop the price of the movies, or get releases out faster.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
