Pretty much confirms a similar state of affair SW to HW - MS has sold more overall in terms of LTD but time adjusted it's pretty even overall, with a slight lead for MS. The major difference is that MS strategy is around a smaller (comparative to Sony but still fairly large in its own right) number of titles and a very small number of huge sellers.

Sony has a smaller number of huge sellers but pushes out a lot more titles (much the same strategy as with PS2, try for blanket coverage of lots of genres/demographics).

Both approaches have their pros and cons and it's interesting to see they come to such a similar result overall.

One thing though, seeing GT5 at the top of the list and still way below its probable LTD you really have to figure Sony should have worked harder to get that title out earlier in the consoles life.

Really, with HW/SW so similar and a similar feature set across both HD consoles now there's just no point hating on whichever HD console you don't own. Not that the core haters will change their tune now, but really, if you dislike the PS3 or 360 and prefer the other you're basically hating on something that's over 90% identical to the thing you love. But that's deindividualism (amongst other things) for you.

I probably would add gears in if it didn't mean having to recalulate the majority of the accumulative

Er he means, count the sales of those games that were during the PS3's lifespan. Like Gears 3 released a week before PS3 released, so exclude its first week, and add the sales it got whilst PS3 was out. I laid it out in my post above. X360 has sold more 1st party SW since PS3 released.

I would assume the list is going to go more towards a Sony lead in the future too? Simply cause they're releasing more games then MS... On the other hand Gears 3 and Kinect Sports 2 (and their other Kinect games) will probably outsell all of Sony's remaining line up this year lol.

I think it has more to do with advertising budget and lack of competition in the exclusive area, and gears 3 will outsell ps3s lineup but I don't think Kinect Sports 2 will sell that much or any of MSes kinect games, and yeah it seems the longer it goes on the more ground Sony will gain

Why not? MS are predicting Kinect to be just as big this holiday, Kinect Sports did 3.2 mill without bundling, Dance Central did over 2 mill, Kinectimals did 1 mill.

Star Wars Kinect, Disney Kinect, Kinect Sports 2 and Dance Central 2 will all do over 2 mill. Casuals will see to that.

Actually I said sales of games RELEASED in the same time frame, if we included sales of games that relased before ps3 thats still giving MS an extra year of games advantage over Sony even if we ignore their first year sales, why are you all trying to say I should included an extra year for MS, this is a fair head to head comparison

because its not fair. Once you have to place restricitons on one side it fails to be fair and becomes a list of what you want.

Great thread , don't mind the others , they are never satisfied, Seece has just lost Conegamer and he's looking for a replacement

That thread is exactly why I did this, trying to make a clear representation of how their exclusives sell in the same circumstances

All of the restrictions apply to both sides thus it's fair
