Interesting and good list. Personally I'd add Gears due to release dates but I would leave KA out as you noted.

Pretty much confirms a similar state of affair SW to HW - MS has sold more overall in terms of LTD but time adjusted it's pretty even overall, with a slight lead for MS. The major difference is that MS strategy is around a smaller (comparative to Sony but still fairly large in its own right) number of titles and a very small number of huge sellers.

Sony has a smaller number of huge sellers but pushes out a lot more titles (much the same strategy as with PS2, try for blanket coverage of lots of genres/demographics).

Both approaches have their pros and cons and it's interesting to see they come to such a similar result overall.

One thing though, seeing GT5 at the top of the list and still way below its probable LTD you really have to figure Sony should have worked harder to get that title out earlier in the consoles life.

Really, with HW/SW so similar and a similar feature set across both HD consoles now there's just no point hating on whichever HD console you don't own. Not that the core haters will change their tune now, but really, if you dislike the PS3 or 360 and prefer the other you're basically hating on something that's over 90% identical to the thing you love. But that's deindividualism (amongst other things) for you.

The list definitely imo looks better on Microsoft, they've been able to get their biggest games to reach out further then Sony has. I'd assume it's just them having a clearer vision on how to market these things. It'll be interesting to see how UC3 and Gears 3 compare this holiday... imo theres no reason why UC3 should sell less then gears... but it probably will, cause Sony can't market it like MS.

I would assume the list is going to go more towards a Sony lead in the future too? Simply cause they're releasing more games then MS... On the other hand Gears 3 and Kinect Sports 2 (and their other Kinect games) will probably outsell all of Sony's remaining line up this year lol.

Yup, dsage claimed earlier that that doesn't matter because Gears had sold 3.5 million before PS3 came out anyway, which is a lie, it sold around 900k, the other 5 mill were done once PS3 launched. The other games I'd have to check


Yup, PGR3 had sold 400k in its first year, then did another 950k after the PS3 released, Viva Pinata released 1 week before PS3 and did 36k (lol) so the other 1.57M sales came after PS3.

So the sales of Gears + PGR3 + Viva Pinata after PS3 launched put 360 total at about 79.9M

That's not even counting PDZ, NNN and Kinect Adventures (which should be included as he's included bundled SW (Forza, Motorstorm, Resistance)

Hey now, the thread creator already laid out the rules for this thread, PS3 must win, stop breaking the rules and let him have his glory.

Very interesting , we've just had a thread about why PS3 exclusives don't sell as well as 360's , this list clearly shows it's all about the strategies of each company.
