I personally think people should just start carying backpacks around, it's really convienient, I can bring a water bottle filled with real orange juice (that cots 1.5 bucks for 2 L) a sweat shirt, and anything else that's awkward to carry, and backpacks are designed to not be a hassle, I really don't know why there is a social stima agaisnt bringing one to most places you go

Yea, If your camping or going on a hike than a backpack would be great, but i dont think you would really need something as large as a backpack to carry a handheld device.  :)

You can get small backpacks you know and why the hell not have it, if you go to work use it to take your lunch and your handheld and anything else, leave it in your car if your somewhere else, it really is unbelievably convienient for thigns like sweat shirts and juice and food, external hardrives and portable devices and there's no good argument not to bring one

lets boil everything down to price, for $250 the PSVita has the better graphics, more media functionality, has better online connectivity, has better touch input, has better standard controls thanks the 2nd analogue stick, has a way better screen, it does better augmented reality.

All in all, for the same price as the 3DS, the PSvita is really the only hand held worth getting. the 3DS's saving grace is the fact that it will have Nintendo games, but it looks like the PSvita may end up having more 3rd party. Straight up their will be vita games not possible on the 3DS because of the multi-touch screen and track pad.

Right now, the PSvita has the potential to really outsell the 3DS. It's sorta funny through, Sony didn't want to name it's handheld PSP anything as the stigma could have affected its sales, and yet Nintendo named the DS successor 3DS in confidence that people would natural upgrade because of the DS wild success, but judging by the sales, it's tanked hard, and yes when you can't even outsell the PSP then you know you've done something wrong.

I think the reason the 3DS isn't doing so well is because the non informed consumers think the 3DS is just a DS with 3D screen, similar to how DS lite is just the lighter brighter version of the original DS and how the DSXL is the larger screened version of the DS...infact I'm sure that if Nintendo had of named the 3DS something different, in the same way Sony named the PSvita as to separate it form the PSP but at the same time keep it inline with the PS products, then i reckon it would be selling allot more than it is right now.

Now for all we know the 3DS may start selling gangbusters this Christmas, but one must admit that Sony on then hand held market has never been in such a great position to really capture the market and really take a huge chunk out of Nintendo's once hand held market.

I just hope Sony releases the PSV this year cuz I wants meh the PSV XD

Specs don't mean shit these days, DS kicked PSP in the nuts and Wii raped both 360 and PS3. I vote 3DS by default right now just because I already know what games will be on it for the masses to care about in the long run.

oh and there is a typo in the OP, not to mention that .3 megapixel = 640x480, so much fail on that lol.

That's all fine and dandy, but more people will buy Mario over Uncharted or Wipeout on Vita =P. It's a simple reality check.

you have disregarded an important fact, PRICE.

Remember that the DS at the time of release was $150 while the PSP was at $250, and the fact that it had the touch gaming gimmick, which took off on the smart phones as the masses loved it, and something the PSP never had. So no matter how high tech the PSP was it was just to expensive.

Come to the present day. The 3DS price is $250 and the4 PSvita has been priced at $250, also the PSVita not only has a multi-touch screen (similar to smart phones) it also has a multi-touch track pad. So given that both machines are the same price, the customer will turn to value, as in which device does more for the same money, and clearly the PSvita does more than the 3DS.

One thing to also factor in, is that portability is no longer an issue, poeple have already accomidated their life style to large devices like the Ipad and other tablets, gone are the days of ultra small phones, and in are the days of smart phones withy 4.3 inche screens.

The world has changed my friend, it's no longer the days of 2004, the hand held market is no longer the same, to disregard the PSvita is just silly, Right now the PSvita has everything in it's favour to really do Nintendo some damage and even has the potential to outsell the 3DS.

Both devices have the same resolution cameras, but the 3DS has three cameras (giving it the ability to take 3D pictures) while the Vita has 2 (which leaves it permanently stuck with only 2D). Even though it's a quality few care about, the fact is, it's still better.

As for portability, you're crazy if you think the PSV has anywhere NEAR the same level of portability as a 3DS. Let me demonstrate with a slightly old picture:

and if that's not obvious enough:
