Forums - Sales Discussion - Sega: Vanquish missed sales expectations

Funny that when Madworld missed sales expectations (Madworld - a short, rather repetitive game with no multiplayer and as per Sega's CEO "as bizarre as you like") it was the Wii audience fault, not the game...

Currently Playing: Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked, Professor Layton and the Curious Village

I wasnt impressed with Madworld or Bayonetta and this game looked less impressive, thats why i didnt get it.

I think SEGA are expecting too much from Platinum. Their games are great (with one exception ) but they aren't exactly mainstream material.

DAMND IT IS!

I heard only 400 people could do it, and even some of the developers arent able to do it!

Only 400 people? where did you get that from? :O

I guess I'm one of them :P

wow nice, Platinum games themself said it on the forums! :_D

Something I've noticed is fast paced and sci-fi shooters are risky. Vanquish is both of these. To make matters worse, it offers no multiplayer. How many successful shooters this gen don't offer multiplayer?

Its not surprising it failed. Too little value.

The game is great. The low sales is most likely due to the lack of multiplayer and the single campaign wasn't long enough. I've gotta get the full version before it's gone.

It bombed even harder than MadWorld and this time they cannot blame the Wii, I can't wait to see how hard Max Anarchy flops.

Vanquish sold twice the amount of Madworld in the first ten weeks. I fail to see how it bombed harder.

bought it last week!

I think Bayonetta is the best action game thus far, exceeded only by the story and characters of the God of War series and now Castlevania. but the gameplay in Bayo was phenominal.

but Vanquish was not a great game imo. the shooting was way to monotonous and repititive. in Bayonetta you have different types of encounters with enemies, and you determine how you engage the enemy. with great boss battles scattered in between.

Vanquish just featured the same robot encounters again and again, theres only one way to detemine encounters and thats by shooting and hiding. the whole boost and slow motion thing was nice, but there was no real varitey to the way you would use them.

i think a better example of semi 3rd person shooters are Dead Space 1 and 2, which i felt were much better than Vanquish in the diversity of gameplay. the story in Vanquish wasnt that great either tbh. so i think the game was lacking in several key departments, and worst of all it had no multiplayer, i dont give a toss about multiplayer, but a shooter releasing in October with no multiplayer isnt going to sell well, regardless of metacritic.

The game look really fun to play, but I'm hesitant on buying it because I get headace's playing FPS/TPS. I can cope with playing Uncharted, but Vanquish is fast pace game that will probably make me want to vomit. -.- It's a shame the game couldn't get 1 million in sales. Platinum is one of my favorite game studios.
