Metroid: Other M - The Black Sheep....or so we thought

Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Metroid: Other M - The Black Sheep....or so we thought

I, like many, enjoyed Other M, and it's a good entry in the series, provided you can get past the dodgy dialogue and story...

The hate always seemed to be  OTT for my liking, many people who hate on the game probably haven't played it (and I know this for a fact).

I say 1.4mil is likely, if it continues selling as it is for another year, like most Nintendo games. And Nintendo will be fine with that.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

I want to forget I ever made that prediction... I thought it would be quite successful in Japan compared to previous games in the series... And now I just look like a twat.

Well did you think the game would be like this at the time? If not, then you can excuse that. If you did, then you really overestimated the appeal of that kind of game.

At the time we didn't know much about the game.  I thought it probably get a metascore of about 91 and would be the first metroid game in recent years to perform well in Japan.

I didn't predict the low sales from Europe either.

And? What else is new? I've had plenty of games I like that I know haters haven't played as well.

And your number has a problem that a lot of games without legs stop selling significantly after a year.

I refuse to buy any more 3D Metroid games, I was fooled by Metroid Prime which turned out to be very boring - It's like being in Zelda's most boring dungeon, except it is the entire game. The game had nice graphics though, but that is the only thing I can say I enjoyed about it.

I think the sales will continue to decline with each iteration of the series. Most people probably gave up on the series after the first 3D game.

It is supposed to be an FPS/Adventure/platformer

* People do not want an FPS with slow and unresponsive aiming
* People do not want an adventure with only one bland character and no story
* People do not want a platformer where you can't see your character's feet, let alone the entire character

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

The three points you listed are all "repaired" in Metroid: Other M. But it sold less than the Prime Games. Are you sure, you know what People want?

I don't know about that. I would assume that many Metroid fans still bought it anyway, even if they just did it out of curiosity of how bad of a game it really is or to add it to their collection.

I also find it hard to call this game's sales good, it was a fairly big game with a well known brand name and treated as such by Nintendo with their marketing efforts. Besides, the first "bad" game launching after a series of stellar titles usually doesn't show how much the reputation of the brand was damaged. It's the game that comes out afterwards. MOM wasn't that tough of a sale for Nintendo, because fans trusted the name. That is gone now and people will take more of a wait and see approach when it comes to the next installment in the Metroid series.

Yea, they spent 3 years working on it and didn't even have a million yet to show for it. Expectations from Nintendo were above Prime 3 levels.

They need to focus their efforts on another series for now.

Or just focus their efforts on firing Sakamoto.

Other M is one of the best games this gen.

The hate this game got from some critics and gamers is part of the generic Wii/Nintendo hate that some gamers and journalist celebrate.

If Other M had been a PS360 game it would have rave reviews.

Um, it was mainly the Wii gamers that hated on this game. Its Metacritic score is in the 80s, which even with the "anything below 7 blows" angle is still on the positive end.

The game is a FLOP AND DESERVES TO BE. IT's the worst mainline Metroid game and an insult to the franchise. IT doesn't deserve good sales, in fact it'sa good thing it sold poorly because it means back to the drawing board on the metroid franchise for Nintendo.

Prime is the bestselling metroid for a reason, not only was it a game GC owners had ot paly because there was **** all else but it was also an outstanding masterpiece that was ahead of it's time. Other M at  the very best is a decent action game with a crappy storyline.

Summary - Average deserves Average sales

Also z101, best game this gen? are you trying to be funny or what? if you are then you didn't make me laugh, just scared that someone has spent the last 5 years just playing one game.

So did you buy Other M? going by your preferences you would have enjoyed it more than the Prime games...
If you didn't, may I ask why?
