Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft: XBL Increase Covers Exclusive Map Packs and Games

ESPN itself is worth the money.

of course this stands true until PS3 gets ESPN for free.

it does have MLB not ESPN

@OP

i seriously never bought the mentioned "Map Packs" because for one, they're overpriced and second i barely give a damn, so do they have to force it down everyone's throat like that ?

The thing about Xbox Live is that you have to pay for things you don't want. There are people that are fine with paying a bit more for things such as EPSN and  exclusive map pack. But there are also many other people that only care for the online gaming part. It might not be a big deal to some people to save an extra 10 or 20. Money is money, and some people would prefer to not pay for things that they don't want.

I don't think MS will ever have the option to pay for just LIVE. Its either premium or nothing.

espn wont be free on ps3 if it ever comes to the system because sony will make it for psn members only. i think sony will move more towards the way xbl is structured with its psn service. i will be getting xbl gold very soon and i am very content to pay the price for the great service i am getting in return.

sony has recently gone into partnership with google to deliver all hardware for googletv.  if the ps3 has all necessary hardware to run googletv (which is very likely) all they would need to do was release a patch to put android onto ps3's and googletv would be reality for the ps3

we already know that sony is working with android for their phones, tvs, and standalone boxes, perhaps they are working with android for their ps3s?  it would put googles googletv on 41 million more devices, pushing googletv pretty darn far

Sony just removed Linux from the PS3; I'm not sure they are going to put another OS on their systems. Besides that, I can't see any way that ESPN will get on without any cost. ESPN is a huge money maker for Disney, there is no way I can see them offering it's programming for free. They do not need the publicity nor are they desperate to extend their coverage.

some people already think that google tv is in the works for ps3, google tv's platform is ran on android, but it is possible that they develop it for the ps3.

microsoft is going the route that cable providers go through to get espn for x360 (it costs a little more than 4$ per subscriber, per month for cable providers eg. comcast), googletv is pretty much sidestepping that whole process

I gladly pay my yearly fee, it is worth it. I think MS should do some awesome deals like ESPN in Europe though. Sky in UK and Canal in France is great, but do a collaboration with maxdome in Germany (just like Netflix) for example or something else for the rest of Europe.

Heck try to get Last.FM to Germany first! This makes no sense. It is available in US / UK, but not in Germany while all you have to do is basically a translation.

And MS makes about 700 million USD per year with the fees. Just spend 15% of this money on exclusives and you could secure 1 blockbuster every 3 months.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

I do not see how googltv is going to offer ESPN for free; I don't think they can legally broadcast a station like ESPN without consent of Disney. Disney will not let ESPN go without a fee, so I don't see that happening. Don't think there is a way they can sidestep paying for this programming.

As I recall some major TV networks were/are blocking access to their programming for googletv as well. I don't know if this issue has been resolved though.

One thing that i don't like about XBL is that they get all these ESPN or HULU or netflix which only benefits americans customers only..

If they want to target people like me outside america,  They would have to get my cable tv channels from my own country to be part of XBL fee plan and I would definitely be a paying customer..

WTF hulu? netflix? PS3 has got those shit too and a bunch of other stuff like love film for EU etc etc....

basically what MS  is saying  is that ppl get the chance TO PAY for timed exclusive DLC s as a benifit for PAYING  XBL GOLD.......LOL!

by getting timed DLC, people who have both systems buy the xbox version, thus increasing the number of available players online, thus creating a better online experience. They're not banning PS3 users from getting it, they're just trying to increase the share of XBL users so that our online experience is better.

Sucks being a Canadian Xbox owner. Besides onling gaming the only service added to Xbox Live that can even be used by Canadians is NetFlix which, let's face it, is practically useless for 95% of the population due to outrageous ISPs. Last.FM - Nope, ESPN - Nope, Sky - Nope, other broadcast deals - Nope...

Map packs are also priced identically between Xbox Live and PSN. I think there should be some discount here.

What are Canadians paying an extra $10 for? I'll continue paying for it as long as I can find random $35 discounts but I feel sorry for Canadians who pay full price for (almost) nothing extra.
