Silly me, you're right, that's very clever : the word "generation" should work like for human beings (where it's more or less 25 years).

Problem is, it seems to me some people talk about "generations" of games inside one generation of consoles. Like the first generation games are the poor ones that don't use the console power.

as for me, next gen means something, what you won`t see anymore else.

Like such amazing dirt from motorstorm or the track lefted by cars.

Next gen animation made in Uncharted.

Probably Getaway,  which looks amazing on EDGE tool.

And well, when MGS2 and FFX come on ps2, the graphics was that amazing, that it was hard to belive, that it is ingame.

Well cryengine2 + ue3.0 on pc, will make last nextgen effect on console a little shorter, but still, have faith in FFXIII, that they will show somehing that you won`t see on PC or anywhere else for some time.

p.s. GTA4 don`t has that good graphics like nextgen getaway, because it become multiplatform, and need to run on xbox360 too. However imagine GTA4 like this:
