Square Enix recently released the FFXIII Ultimania Omega in Japan. In this extended Ultimania, there are more behind the scenes interviews and discussions with the development team. In the extra section, Toriyama and Kitase discuss something that might be of interest to certain fans.

There was indeed a DLC package planned for the game. It would be an extra area called Seventh Ark, accessed through the third warp gate in Orphan's Cradle. It was going to be an extra area with optional free battles and a quest structure of some sort. There are two screenshots in the book showing the work-in-progress location.

Originally it was intended to be in the game proper, but it was removed when they ran out of time and had to finish the game. After being moved to a DLC package, the team ran into more problems both in terms of quality content and in terms of technical aspects. Since the DLC was not going to live up to expectations, and because there were problems with the differences between the PS3 and 360's download platforms, they eventually cancelled the entire project.

Kitase goes on to say that a sequel to FFXIII is a possibility, but like in the Compilation of FFVII and FFX-2, it will largely depend on the feedback they get from fans of the game. If they feel there is a demand, it could very well happen. He goes on to say that the FFXIII team is already moving on to their next game, because Wada wants each team to be able to steadily release one game every two years from now on.

I won't mind, if...

They kill Hope and Vanille, painfully.

The story doesn't get bogged down.

There are villians.

The game isn't a straight line.

thats wishful thinking, Id rather they focus on new products and lets just forget like FF13 ever existed.

I want sequels until FFXIII-13. Bring them on!

I liked FFXIII a lot but it's not my favorite nor least favorite... >_> so if they can release the sequal in a timely manner I'm for it. Like if they used some of the assets that didn't make it into the original game and already existing assets... a_la like FFX-2, and make it quickly like X-2

(note: FFX-2, I loved it, more than 13... don't care if you didn't, but that time frame is important).
if they cant make it quickly, make something else. or release versus :P

This game, more than any other FF game, SCREAMS for a sequel.

The ending was...for lack of a better word, anti-climatic maybe?  It reminded me HEAVILY of FFX, with its complete lack of finality.  This is why FFXIII needs a sequel more than any of the rest.  They need to finish the story (like they did in FX) and well, it gave me that cliffhanger feeling (like they do in most movies that have a sequel coming).

Lol, I love FFX-2 and I also like all of the main line FF except for XI haven't played it. Really like the battle system in FFX-2 so that's why I am hyped for agito because I heard agito will use the same battle system and of course AGITO feels like the older FFs before it .

FFX-2 included a unique interesting concept that I loved. The dress sphere. That's why I really don't understand the hate from this game.

Anyways as time goes by and my hyped for FFXIII was gone is when I realised FFXIII was an incomplete game. Lots of inconsistencies on the story. The story telling wasn't executed well and I really feel that grand pulse was just a filler to the story. I still like the game though and I just can't help myself think that FFXIII could have been more. That's why I hope that if ever FFXIII-2 will be made. I hope that FFXIII-2 fixes the flaws in FFXIII.

Like to add this too. I think FFXIII stroy is like watching a TV series from Episode 1-4 then skip to episode 10. I mean a lot stories hasn't been told.

There no way it will happen.Most fans hated 13.Se just release versus and agito already then make KH3!(Please on an HD console)
