Looks like the 360 boost was down to MH after all and not the slim, as sales are rapidly dropping back to where they were.

PS3 and Wii so close now most weeks, I wonder if Sony are tempted to try and drop the price just a bit and see if that could pull in a bit more demand?

If 360 stays in that range or below with the 360s model then I'm doubting Kinect will make much difference in Japan either.

All the action for the HD consoles is going to be in US and Others now it looks like.

why would they do that? they are almost matching and demand is already there?

they dont care about being slightly above the wii or slightly below it.

they care about revenue and profits.

...and the 360 is a pointless discussion topic for Japan.  I jave a 360S now, a fine machine - looks good, is compact and solid.. if that doesnt garner interest there nothing will. they are clearly not interested for whatever reason. Their loss.

If even Kowenicki says 360 is dead in Japan, I guess it's really really dead now.

Now, everybody except diehard MS fanboys could already see it was dead 2 years ago, but better late than never I guess.

Still, I love the damage control part ("Their loss", "whatever reason").

Maybe they just prefer reliable consoles and they're now afraid of buying a faulty product (MS bad reputation).

Maybe they just don't like shooters.

Maybe they think there aren't enough good games that they can't already play on their PS3 or on their PC.

After all, the only major recent half exclusive is Mass Effect 2, and you can play it on PC, same thing for Fable 3, or Gears... It hardly competes with the numerous great PS3 exclusives.

Who knows...

I said it was dead 2 years ago....

it has nothing to do with not liking shooters (MS has really tried with software this time, undeniable)

nothing to do with reliability (the original xbox wasnt unreliable - neither are most western products) yeah yeah, i know... "bu but its too big"

Japan is suspicious of all things foreigh, it really is.  Dont quote the ipod at me... its pretty much an exception.  This suspicioun of foreigners and foreign goods is what is actually killing the Japanese economy right now. maybe they will wake up, maybe they wont... not that I really mind either way.  There are pletny of articles on the internet, business sites mainly and in the written media exposing this problem.

They have a very strong culture of... protecting their culture.

They also engage in mass slaughter of dolphins on the quiet.... "vive le differfence" I guess.....

That was a very biased depiction of Japan. I guess Americans could be accused of mass cow slaughtering (to make burgers). How would that sound for Hindu cultures?

Comparing the more humane killing of farm animals in controlled situations with the slaughter of a wild marine animal in barbaric situations is a little bit silly.

where else on the planet do human beings slaughter dolphins and whales to this degree?

you are defending the indefensible here...  the whole world wants Japan to stop this.

I really do not wish to go into a discussion on the slaughter of cows and dolphins on a console-sales-tracking-website :)

However, you should really take time to read Fast Food Nation.

Btw, I'm not defending Japan for dolphin-slaughter. Rather I am also pointing out that other countries should be criticized for their own poor practices. Comparing one to the other to see which is 'worse' seems silly at best.

Oh well, let's just stop killing cows, dolphins and lambs, as long as I can eat pig I'm totally fine...

Wait, we always had the solution before our very eyes, yet we didn't see it! Why slaughtering all those poor cute animals? Let's eat them alive!!!

LOL at " they are clearly not interested for whatever reason. Their loss. " that's as arrogant as it gets really, ill think you'll find the only people that are losing out are MS, that's how business works.

Microsoft keeps their business going in Japan because it's the #2 national market in the industry, there's an overwhelming amount of game developers there and for long term strategic reasons, you basically have to maintain a Japanese presence on some level to keep Japanese content on your platform (which sells worldwide).  And really, they've even carved out a decent little niche for 360 as the console for SHMUPs, youge or galgames, so it's not been a total loss.  360's going to end up tripling it's predecessor by the end of the gen, that's no small feat.

MS may have lost the console race in Japan, but with more and more Japanese publisher focusing on wide spread or Western focus gaming, they will still be in good position, come next console round to make a dent.

The fact is, this generation has been pretty good for MS in all markets. Not as good as its been for  Nintendo but good enough to build up on later.

I think the 360 selling 3k-5k most weeks is a hell of a lot better than the 500-700 a week the original xbox did most weeks. By the end of this year the sales of the 360 will be roughly triple that of the Xbox. Not to bad if you ask me.

True but you have to remember japan supports japanese companies and games. It doesn't matter if the wester game is a 10/10 it will still sell like shit over there.
