Forums - PC Discussion - DO NOT buy a laptop from ASUS.

I own a small ASUS UL30A, best laptop I've ever owned.

And I usually recommend Asus to laptop buyers, they are amongst the best in quality, as long as you put a little money in it, and they make awesome ultraportables.

So after COUNTLESS problems with my ASUS G71 laptop i bought last september Bestbuy decided to replace my laptop. I Now have an Asus G73. However i just got it today and im experiencing one of the exact same problems as i had with the last one. My battery will not charge. When i plug in my AC adapter it will register and say 95% Available (Plugged in Not charging)

Ive tried everything and it still will not work. Like i said before my last computer from ASUS had this exact same problem and i ended up having to send it in to them to get it repaired. This is absolutely Ridiculous this is the second BRAND NEW $1200 laptop i have bought from ASUS that has crapped out on me within 3 Months.

DO NOT buy a laptop from ASUS. I love their Motherboards and have never had problems with them but their laptops are TERRIBLE build quality.

I Did get this laptop working actually. I ended up flashing the BIOS and that seems to have fixed the problem. Lets hope this continues to hold up. *fingers crossed

****UPDATE****: On July 5, 2010 This very same laptop had its Graphics card fry. I RMA'd it to ASUS who replaced the whole motherboard. I recieved my laptop back from them on July 19th. NOW ON JULY 21 while typing an Essay i got a GSOD (grey screen of Death) signifying the GPU has again fried. and they want me to send it in for repair AGAIN!!

This is absolute Bull shit. Every single laptop from them that i have owned has lasted NO MORE THAN 1 MONTH before breaking. This happens over and over again and im fed up with it and i Advise you all to NOT buy a laptop from them

Sorry to hear about your problems. I got an ASUS W90 series laptop myself. The only issue I have had with it in 1.5 years is the keyboard tends to 'double press' letters sometimes. For me, it's not even worth complaining about.

The W90 series has an ATI Radeon HD 4870X2, Core2 Duo T9600, 6 GB of RAM, and 320 GB combined two hard drives. I could complain that it came with Vista, but I could also say I've gotten used to it. Like I said, my experience has been very stable.

The BuShA owns all!

Thanks for the heads up OP

Speaking of laptops, does anyone recommend a good brand to buy?

Yea, pretty much Thinkpads (T series and above) or Macbook Pros.

This^^ the Toshiba Toughbooks are great as well. Of course with all of these models the prices are quite high. But judging from what I hear and read you really do get whta you pay for in mobiles.

XBL: WiiVault Wii: PM me  PSN: WiiVault

PC: AMD Athlon II Quadcore 635 (OC to 4.0ghz) , ATI Radeon 5770 1GB (x2)

MacBook Pro C2D 2.8ghz, 9600m GT 512 iMac: C2D 2.0, X2600XT 256

Weird... I've received great feedback about ASUS laptops from my friends.

Just ridiculously expensive though. For price, and quality of workmanship, its Macs and Thinkpads.

Every single laptop used by actual business profesionals is either a Thinkpad T Series, and above, or a MBP.

mmmm no...

Pro use Dell, HP, and some Thinkpads when they have enough money. MBP are for a very few and special businesses, and it's very new.

I have an Asus X59SL since  more than 1.5 year and my only problem is that in summer the laptop gets too hot after 4 or 5 hours of use. But this summer is very hot in Spain  .

I don't know if I agree. One should avoid entry level laptops no matter what the brand.

If you buy a 400 dollar Dell, HP, Toshiba, emachines...it will suck. Asus is no different.

I know people with higher end Asus laptops (my gf) and they have very little issues with it.

emachines dont suck that bad anymore since its now owned by Acer.

They are awful.
