Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony: We have code that makes PSP games unhackable for 60 days

"A lot of the stuff that will be announced at E3 we're very excited about, because they are huge titles. And we also believe that there's a way that you will be able to, not stop, but slow down the piracy in the first 30 to 60 days from a tech perspective. There's some code that you can embed that we've been helping developers implement in order to get people at least to see a 60-day shelf life before it gets hacked and it shows up on BitTorrent.

That's been the biggest problem, no question about it. It's become a very difficult proposition to be profitable, given the piracy right now. And the fact that the category shrunk inside of retail."

Interesting. I wonder what stops them from making it a longer time. Hopefully it has a positive effect.

I was thinking the same thing.

it could be something they apply that rearranges the gamecode in a random format that will make pirates to rearrange the code to pirate.obvioslt the PSP would be able to decode it but pirates will take time

Good to hear.

This seems to be a step in the right direction. Hopefully Sony has learned its lesson and will implement new anti-piracy features into the PSP2 :)

This looks like a good thing.

An anti piracy measures that (presumably) doesn't affect legitimate users :)

60 days would certainly be enough to prevent a lot of piracy on big, anticipated releases. I expect that most pirates would merely wait the 60 days for the majority of games that they pirate

good job sony now people will just wait 60 days and pirate the damn thing.

I think its 60 days because pirates will eventually find a way anyway.. and 60 days will most certainly make a difference.. its just not at all stopping piracy as a whole.
