Who is surprised here ?

This game was overhyped on the whole internet because it was supposed to be the "BEST GAME EVA", the BEST GFX EVA, the best survival horror game that is so good that you DO NOT HAVE the right to call it a survival horror game (thx you Remedy for this last point)

also, the game has no online multiplayer which seems to be more and more important for gamers today ...

It is released close to RDR which is getting high praising

AND the pre-orders where showing us since numerous weeks that game will not have amazing sales.

Conclusion : plz port the game to PC and I will buy it. Thx you Remedy.

Were not talking about the following gamese

  • Uncharted 1/2
  • LBP
  • R2 (Remember that guy who said Its the best looking game of 2008? LOL!)
  • MGS4
  • Selnor
  • Westley Yin-Poole (He said Crysis 2 on 360 was better than PC crysis LOL!!!)
  • GT5
  • GoW3
  • Gears 3

But this game is incredible, The graphics are mind blowing.

D-D-D-Daaamage Control!

i don't think it'll make ANY profit...these are really LOW sales for a 6-years-of-development game....

I think it's going to sell like Darksiders http://www.vgchartz.com/games/game.php?id=25779&region=All , but about 40% better. And have a similar sales difference between Others and USA.

I think to be decently profitable it really needed to be multiplat (i.e. on PC). Perhaps MS and Remedy over-estimated its appeal on 360 alone. I can't believe they got 4 years down the track on 360+PC development and then decided to ditch PC because it was too hard. The call must have come from somewhere on high that the game had to be 360 exclusive for reasons other than technical / development issues. I think MS wants more games that are genuinely exclusive to 360 and not the faux "console exclusive".

I just hope MS stumped up with a bit of cash for Remedy to compensate for wasted development time and lost PC sales.

I suspect it'll do reasonably well in the U.S. market which is where the majority of the sales will come from.

i thought this game would sell more , after all there was a lot of hype lol, "best graphics ever, "goty contender" , "aaa title ". but it got mediocre reviews

You consider a mid 80s review average to be mediocre?  Sure, it is not as good as the mid 90s that Red Dead Dedemption is getting but the reviews for the game were still good.  Also, if pre-orders are of any indication, the game will sell around 100,000 copies in America first week.  This isn't to shabby for a new IP.

82  metacritic  ,  everybody expected at least  >90 ,  after the reviews came the hype pretty much vanished  lol

Of course it won't make a profit. :/ Would have needed at least 1.5 million, maybe 2 million copies for it.

The man said it himself right here.

Plus it's a "Psychological THriller". How many other Psychological Thrillers do you see do well in sales this gen?

Weeeeeelllll..........technically, we could use HEAVY RAIN, though it's almost a genre all to itself. :P

Gotta admit though, 88,000 is still quite low, even for a new IP. It's either undertracked, or the lack of marketing REALLY hurt it. I just thought it would do so much more here, 200-250,000 opening week.

CGI both you and I know that Heavy Rain is very unique doesn't fully belong in the 'psychological thriller'. It's Interactive Drama ^^!! And we all know how well Heavy Rain is doing in sales as well :D!

Lols, I don't believe anyone is taking the OP seriously.

These are incredible sales for Alan wake first week in Europe, the developers are very happy and the game shall inevitably make a profit.

OP is either a troll, convinced to make Alan wake look bad no matter the cost, or is a massive 360 fanboy whose expectations were unrealistically high. Either way, we should not be having a discussion about this

I suppose one big problem for Alan Wake saleswise was the fact that it was officially released weeks after it was leaked.
By the time Alan Wake was available in shops, many people had long finished the game.

You sure you're not trying to falsely overhype the hype?

Ahhh....now it's clear ;).

what do you mean ? AW was overhyped. End.

Ask to anyone at VGChartz ...

and the 2 sentences that you are underlying are not linked together IMO ...

but, yes, bring the game to PC, this is were I want to play it.

I'm not saying it wasn't overhyped when going by metacritic.  I'm just saying you're falsely accusing the entire internet of going off the rails for AW with "best game eva" or "best gfx eva".  That doesn't mean there were ppl out there hyping it but be realistic about what you're saying instead of bringing everything to the utmost extreme about it.

I promise you, plenty of people were overhyping this game (or had overexpectation about it)

it includes gaing journalist that felt in love with AW 5 years ago and where expecting a bit more from this game.
again, the game is very good but it is as good as people were expecting.

Also, low sales, are mainly explained by :
Xbox360 internet AW fans are not that much compared to the majority of Xbox360 users that do not know AW (not enoguth marketing ? not enought high review ?) and may not be interested in (no multiplayer ? others game releases ?)

Remedy need the game to make a profit, their studio's future is resting on it.

I'm surprised by it's low debut, I thought it would at least sell 150k+ in others first week. Both SC and AW have been commercially and critically a bit of a letdown in my mind, and I think Mod Nation Racers may be next.

Not that every game needs to get perfect scores, or that metacritic is the ultimate yardstick of quality, but scores in the low 80's for exclusives a long time in the works from studios with a strong pedigree is dissapointing.

It would be an awful shame for Remedy to get into financial problems, so hopefully the game will have legs.

Splinter Cell Conviction is on track to be the highest selling Splinter Cell on an Xbox product.

At the same time, I can see you're point critically, a lot of people (in the case of Alan Wake, myself included) expected them to be AAA.

I wouldn't worry about the game losing money.  It was in production for a long time yes, but with an EXTREMELY small development team.  This isn't Killzone 2.
