Forums - Gaming Discussion - Could Halo: Reach be the best Halo since Halo: Combat Evolved?

Of course, I mean this campaign and story wise.

Most would agree that the original Halo offered the best campaign out of the entire series, due to it's large rich cinematic set-pieces and open sandbox like outdoor environments. The planet Halo gave me a sense of wonder and awe within it's atmosphere, something which has been lost in it's sequels. The story was also well written for a first-person shooter that. In several game interviews, Bungie have stated that they would like to bring back elements from Halo: CE. that were lost in Halo 2 and 3, back to Reach but evolve it to the next-gen level. They've been touting a tale about tragedy, heroism, and sacrifice with a brand new cast of characters. Which is fitting for such a tragic event in the Halo universe if you've read the novel Halo: Fall of Reach. They are thankfully also bringing the Elites back, they were much more fun to fight than the Brutes.

I hope Bungie pulls it off this time, since they've dissapointed me with Halo 2 and 3's campaign and story. Halo 3: ODST, while not at as good as Halo: CE, it was a step in the right direction with set-pieces and pacing almost as good as the first. I also hope they nail the story for the first time, Bungie have also promised a story about heroism and tragedy, but all we received was a corny macho war story. I hope Reach isn't one of 2010's biggest disappointments.

Yeah since it's the last Halo game. I hope they don't pull a MW2.

Hopefully Bungie's last Halo title will go out with a bang. If it does become this year's Modern Warfare 2, I'm going to punch Marcus Lehto in the face for replacing Jason Jones as creative director, he urged me with Halo 3.

No more than one reply? That makes me a sad panda.... yeah this was a blatantly obvious attempt to bump my thread.

Aww, I liked Halo 2's story V_V .

Anyway, XD, Reach is the most excited I've been for a Halo game that's primarily for story. As many have already stated, it's the titanic of games... there is a sense of doom from the beginning.

I found Halo 2's storyline to be pretty good until the ending, Halo 3's story however....

Anyway, Bungie have been promising a story with a more humane and intimate view of the battle for Reach. Hopefully it's a sorrow and tragic tale about war with fascinating and woefully developed characters, instead of a cheesy Hollywoodish action movie with corny macho characters.

Then again, the second trailer for Halo Reach was pretty corny.... that is not a good sign.

From what I have seen I think Halo: Reach is gonna have an absolutely amazing campaign.

Man I hope so. Though I loved all the Halo's single players I played thru Halo:CE more times than the other Halo's combined. I really hope they can give us a those huge open levels from the first one and increase the length of the single player.

Are you referring to the live action 'birth of a spartan' trailer? If so, I'm fairly sure that was intended for the Beta and not the campaign. They'll probably give us an epic trailer at E3 :D .

No, I'm refering to the VGA trailer they shown in November... or was it December? The music and the visuals looked amazing for the game, everything else was underwhelming, especially the voice acting for Carter and Jun (The sniper).

I hope the visuals of the game look as good as it did in that trailer, I hope it doesn't look anything like the beta. The visuals for the beta weren't bad, better than Halo 3 but looks underwhelming compared to most gamers. You could claim that it's just a beta, but the final product usually doesn't look much different than the beta. The visuals for the VGA trailer were light years ahead of what the beta looks like.
