no dream on Sony have rights to the FF7 franchise believe it or not, so if FF7 is remade expect it to be at least on PS3, maybe even on x360 if you get lucky

Microsoft hasn't stolen anything, if it did then Sony stole it from someone else first. That's what happens when most of the greatest franchises on your system are made by 3rd parties. One of the reasons why I admire Nintendo.

I know Sony published the game, but I am not aware of any rights Sony might have. The game was released on PC as well as PS1.

It is a matter of opinion of course, but majority of exclusive franchises on the PS3 are either 1st or 2nd party exclusives and most of the 3rd party exclusives were established on the playstation platform, so no stealing - if you can even call it that -.

I doubt many ppl who have xbox 360 would be interested in a FF7 remake.

No they don't.  They bought the rights to publish it and 4 other games on the PS1.  That's all they did.

Do you really, really think that X720 could run a HD FFVII remake if they insist on digital distribution? Who will download a 100 gigabyte plus game? They will have to use at least a blu-ray drive on their next console. I bet a FFVII remake will use 2 Dual layer BD Discs plus a single layer. So if they start to develop now, the platform of choice will be without doubts the PS3.
