Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Can Microsoft buy FF7 remake?

Microsoft has stolen and bought many games this gen. From Monster Hunter Frontier, to GTA timed-exclusive content, Splinter Cell, FFXIII, you name it...

Would it be possible to microsoft to buy the next FF7 remake?

Honestly I'm expecting this, since they have no problems waving a couple millions at developers faces to get exclusive games on their platform.

This would pretty much secure success for their next console in Japan, the area were they struggle the most.

Hm?

If you mean as an exclusive, then no; it is not possible.

No chance...

2012 - Top 3 [so far]

                                                                             #1                                       #2                                      #3

Sony did the same thing on PSone. As microsofts doing now.

Sony I doubt would let microsoft exclusivity happen anyways for a game of that stature, being's well they own 20% of square enix, and they know that it would hurt the next gen marketshare.

Now, if they remake it. It could possibly be on both. But, I doubt unless microsoft pays for the whole development costs or more of the remake that it would even have a chance to be exclusive to them. I do think if they do remake it it is a big possibility to be on both.

Obviously everything has its price, so if Microsoft offered a billion dollars for a FF7 exclusive, I think Square Enix would do that. But that would be unintelligent on microsofts part.

But this is all my opinion and could be wrong.

They owned 20% of squaresoft. Right now, they own around 8.5% of Square Enix; still a significant amount.

They owned 20% of squaresoft. Right now, they own around 8% of Square Enix.

err yah, didn't they buy that percent after Final Fantasy Movie Bombed? Not sure if the 2 corellated, I thought it did. I forgot that was before they merged. (My memory is failing nooo D:)

They didn't "steal" anything.

Not to mention... Sony doesn't really have any say in what SE does even with said stock.  As far as i've heard it's non-voting.

As for people saying microsoft couldn't buy FF7.

Well that's just silly.  Won't is fine to say.... but can't?

Your telling me if Microsoft went up to SE and offered them like... a billion dollars they'd say no?

Microsoft could afford to buy pretty much any franchise not done by Nintendo or Sony... and even both of them would have to sit and think about it.

Afterall, Microsoft products are on Apples.

M$ has all but abandon ship in Japan (I would do the same), Mistwalker has gone off working for Ninty. Now the next major target for M$ are ur granma and grandpa, behold the mighty Natal that let the boy in TV who knows when u're sad (say encouraging words), drunk with an axe in hand (run in a jiffy) or horny (ummm, fill in the blanks here).

That's what I said up there ^ (Minus the thing about the stock which I was obviously pwned on)

However, a better thing for them to buy exclusivity for would be Dragon Quest Anyways as don't they sell more in Japan than FF?
