With Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix + Re: Chain of Memories at last out in Japan, Tetsuya Nomura and crew can now devote all their energy to their next project. And that appears to be another Kingdom Hearts game, or at least another tie-up with Disney. But is it Kingdom Hearts III?

Speaking with Japan's Gemaga and Dengeki PlayStation publications, Nomura gave a few hints on the new project, which he's previously hinted would see formal announcement later this year.

Gemaga asked if the characters who appear in the new CG "secret movie" that has been added to Final Mix are from the new title. "They are people who have some relation to the new series," said the producer. "However the next title won't just be Kingdom Hearts III. If it were III, we wouldn't call it a new series."

Asked if Sora and Riku would make an appearance in the new game, he said with a laugh, "I can't say." He also hinted that the new game would have something to do with Xehanort, the main villain of the Kingdom Hearts series.

He was just as direct when Dengeki PlayStation asked for some details on the new title. "First, it's not Kingdom Hearts III. Of course, because we're calling it a 'new' series, it won't be KHIII. Also, it's a series, so it probably won't be just one title."

Nomura once again promised an announcement of the new game, whatever it may be, some time this year. In the meanwhile, he suggested that players attempt to unlock the Final Mix secret movie and start imagining.

 I have both Kh1 and Kh2 and i never managed to get into the game, since i really hated the battle system xD

 Altought i had no interest, i was hoping for KHIII on the wii, it would help the system and maybe if they used the wiimote well i could find the game more fun then the previous.

  But i think its better this way, after all i'm getting tired of so many final fantasies something from SE, i'd much rather have original properties insteado of more and more sequels and spin offs of the same series... Well maybe that is just me  

I am a big fan I have Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 and I would be really sad if the franchise goes over to the Wii. They gameplay is not as important as the story in the Kingdom Hearts games. But I would not mind if they made the game for both consoles or thet Wii got another version of the game. I hope the new game will be as good as the previous.

Probably the only one, yeah. But seriously, no Final Fantasy game is a true sequel considering it's a completely different storyline every time and usually a different battle system. Sorry you didn't like KH. I was okay with the battle system in the first game but it got better in the 2nd anyway, imo. The strongest part of all these games has been the cinematic value and storylines, so if you don't enjoy those, what kind of RPGs do you like? Just curious.

They won't be deciding on anything with KHIII until they wait out the console war a bit more.  If the Wii keeps dominating like it has been, it might end up on Wii, especially if the PS3 totally bombs.  360 has an outside shot at it too, even if they market it for NA and 360 stays strong there.

They already announced a new Kingdom Hearts game and it is coming out for the Wii. I think it was called Kingdom Hearts Mushroom and it will have nintendo characters instead of Final Fantasy characters. It even showed Mario all decked out with a key blade.

 

The Mushroom Kingdom Hearts was just an April fools joke... not something real!
