Forums - Sony Discussion - Is God of War III that great?

look, I can afford to buy the game I just dont know if Ii want to spend the money. I go to grad school and it aint cheap, my wife goes to college, and that isnt cheap either. I just want to be cautious of where my money goes. I can imagine the god of war III is awesome. I have the remade version of god of war I&II and both of those are good. I just find that someimes it is difficult to trust what websites say in their reviews.

If money is tight why would you buy an at most 10 hour game with little replay value (going off of reviews)?  I'm not trying to dissuade you or imply anything about the game here, now I'm just curious.  I can understand buying the God of War collection when you really have to be careful with your money since that's two games for $30 but if you're paying $60, I would consider replay value.

People think I can't have an opinion on the game and that's cool.  I don't plan on saying anything about the series really until I finish the second one.  He asked for an opinion, I knew the forum being how it is there would be no negative even if it were a terrible game (which it isn't), so I gave another opinion.

don't trust review sites?

ign, gamespot, metacritic? if the thousands of user reviews in addition to the critic reviews which all heavily praise the game is not compelling, then the opinions of a few fanboys will do nothing.

yes it's outstanding. it is the most amazing experience i've ever seen in gaming...edging out kz2 and uncharted 2.

art is the excrement of culture

i am going to buy it. i think that what guy twestern should play the game before he has such critical things to say. the truth is that I am interested in people who have played it. i thought somebody who didnt like playing it would have spoke up. evedentally most people love it. i am now goiung to be onboard.

Well I get GOW III tomorrow, so I will let you know what it is like after I get it:):)

it's the future of handheld

Just so you have a different opinion since everyone else will say buy it, I would say buy Bayonetta.

I'm playing God of War right now and it's a good game but I've been thinking the entire time I'd rather be playing Bayonetta.

Granted this is only God of War I'm playing but from everything I've heard God of War 3 is God of War 2 is God of War and I'm expecting to think the same at least all the way through God of War 2.

So my opinion-- if you're looking for a God of War type game, get Bayonetta.

-edit-

And why must a game be outstanding to even consider playing it?

Bayonetta is something made from trash when compared to a game like God of War 3.

Plus, you've got a lot to say for someone who hasn't even beat the first game, probably hasn't played the second game, probably haven't played the third game either.

@kowenicki

renting? it's not like you were buying anything anyway it seems to me....

If you liked GOW1 or 2, or if you really like pressing L1 and square 1000 times in a row, then this is the game for you.

HAHAHA i agree

It's not exactly mind-shatteringly great, but it's okay.

Fact is, for all the glitz and glamor, it's still the same shallow romp with slightly more interactivity than the haunted mansion at Disneyland.

Of course, it's great if you want to see more of the baffling design choices the series is famous for. Example: consider how in Mario 64, you could see where Mario is going to land (after jumping off an owl or something) by where his shadow is going. God of War's shadow system is definitely fancy, but doesn't serve this function, and it doesn't offer any other tricks to help you out with stuff like that. So, Santa Monica Studios, congrats on making something less sophisticated than an N64 game.

I just beat it last night and I've enjoyed it as well as the first two games.

So yea, I'd say it was a great experience. Though I thought Kratos' voice sounded a little weird on some of his lines, like when he repeats the line he uses at the end of the second game.
