Well, if SNES was a mistake, then I sure hope they haven't learned anything.
But in the end it's about the games anyway. I often wonder why gamers cry for a new system... all it means is they get to shell out 300€ again. Nintendo could make exactly the games we want for Wii, there's no new console needed. Granted, HD will become obligatory eventually.

Not the system, but the design philosophy I quoted.

But that's the point. I don't agree that the SNES was "same, but better". What should they have done instead back then, in your opinion? Introducing motion controls and minigames? There are more subtle ways to innovate, and games on the SNES innovated big time compared to NES games.
I mean, motion controls and expanding the audience is nice and all, but you shouldn't be fooled by marketing slogans. After all, Wii IS the oddball system this generation, so it's no surprise that Nintendo are selling their disruptive approach as superior. But they need to be careful that their strategy doesn't come back to bite them in the end, because you cannot introduce a revolution with every new generation. Some novelties are short lived, and after a "disruptive" console, people might wish for a more conservative system next time.
I know I don't care much for motion controls, my favourite Wii games would have been more or less possible on a Gamecube. The Nintendo difference is in the quality of their games, and this reputation was built over 20 years WITHOUT any "red/blue ocean" blabber.
