I've already read it, I know what I read. It still says they're not interested in it, regardless of how you read it.  They need a reason to go HD and they haven't got the reason yet.  Which still means they're not interested.

This is not quite the same as making a mockery of it, and encouraging fans to do the same via PR statements. I saw your posts in many of the Move vs. Wiimote threads, and it's obvious that you're taking out some of your bitterness here.

Possibly HD, but then they would be hypocritical.   Though what company ISNT!?

In what way would that be hypocritical?

"When asked about display technology like HD and 3-D, Fils-Aime downplayed them as a necessity. “When people talk about high definition for the Wii console, our feedback is that that by itself will not create a brand new experience. Therefore, we're not interested. What we have to push for are groundbreaking new experiences. Technology has to enable it, not to be a means all by itself.”"http://www.industrygamers.com/news/nintendo-not-interested-in-wii-hd-says-reggie/

All he's saying in that interview and every other one of the 5,000 Wii HD interviews is that HD is not enough of a reason on its own to release a new console. He's not saying they aren't interested in HD.

How much clearer can I make it >_<.

Read the entire quote rather than cherry-picking four words... If you don't get it then, then all I have for you is pity.

I've already read it, I know what I read. It still says they're not interested in it, regardless of how you read it.  They need a reason to go HD and they haven't got the reason yet.  Which still means they're not interested.

well obviously, if they were to release a wii HD that would mean they had found the reason that you mention.... so there wouldn't be any hypocrisy, just the exact evolution they said they would do.

OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO

I took a Power Wii this morning!

Power your Wii online?
I'll be happy if it has something to do the Wii's online.

I think you should read it again because that is clearly not what he said ...

What I think is a more accurate interpretation is that pushing for higher resolutions or 3D displays does not (in itself) create new game-play experiences, and therefore he does not see a point to release a HD version of the Wii. If that is what he meant, he is also correct.

Since the middle of the 1990s PC games have had the option to play the game at resolutions that roughly approximate SD and HD resolutions, and playing the game at higher resolutions has never really (fundamentally) altered the game-play experience. At the same time, there have been various stereoscopic display units created for PCs for most of the past decade and playing the same games with a 3D display does not (fundamentally) alter the game-play experience.

Even if Nintendo produced a system that was entirely focused on enhanced processing power this kind of statement would not make them hypocrites, because as long as the processing power increase was enough to offer a significantly different game-play experience it would fall within their philosophy; and you could probably argue that the kind of hardware that is/will be available for next generation systems will provide a drastically different game-play experience than the Wii can.

I heard a rumor that Sony is registering "PSPORTS", Pii Sit", "Super Sockboy Bros" and "The Legend of Kratos: Ocarina of Betrayal but nothing is confirmed yet.

No new Wii, period. It will be a new system. Super Famicom/NES fell into the "same, but better" trap that put them in the red ocean.

Well, if SNES was a mistake, then I sure hope they haven't learned anything.

But in the end it's about the games anyway. I often wonder why gamers cry for a new system... all it means is they get to shell out 300€ again. Nintendo could make exactly the games we want for Wii, there's no new console needed. Granted, HD will become obligatory eventually.

Not the system, but the design philosophy I quoted.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

Hopefully this is an add-on and not a new console.
After all, it would be tough to abandon my DLC and Save files.

(If this exists at all).

Either way, they're still not interested, lol.  I don't care how it's looked at, at this current time they're not interested.  Which if tomorrow or next week or sometime the next couple of months they decide: "HD WE ARE DOING IT!" and they have no real need for HD then yes that does make them hypocrites.  They stated: "What we have to push for are groundbreaking new experiences. Technology has to enable it, not to be a means all by itself."

That is all I'm trying to say, lol.  Yes I know I'm going a little unrealistic, but it still stands.

Edit: I'm very tired atm, so maybe I will come back to see it in more detail.

  • 2010 MUST Haves: WKC, Heavy Rain, GoWIII, Fable III, Mass Effect 2, Bayonetta, Darksiders, FFXIII, Alan Wake, No More Heroes 2, Fragile Dreams: FRotM, Trinity: SoZ, BFBC2.
  • Older Need To Buys: Super Mario Bros. Wii, Mario Kart Wii, Deadspace, Demon's Souls, Uncharted 2.

There is definitely more to list that I want, but that's my main focus there.

But that's the point. I don't agree that the SNES was "same, but better". What should they have done instead back then, in your opinion? Introducing motion controls and minigames? There are more subtle ways to innovate, and games on the SNES innovated big time compared to NES games.

I mean, motion controls and expanding the audience is nice and all, but you shouldn't be fooled by marketing slogans. After all, Wii IS the oddball system this generation, so it's no surprise that Nintendo are selling their disruptive approach as superior. But they need to be careful that their strategy doesn't come back to bite them in the end, because you cannot introduce a revolution with every new generation. Some novelties are short lived, and after a "disruptive" console, people might wish for a more conservative system next time.

I know I don't care much for motion controls, my favourite Wii games would have been more or less possible on a Gamecube. The Nintendo difference is in the quality of their games, and this reputation was built over 20 years WITHOUT any "red/blue ocean" blabber.
