Many of Nintendo's high profile projects become public knowledge less than a year before they come out. On the other hand Sony and MS seem to follow the industry trend of announcing projects not long after they start - often multiple years before they reach consumers.

How much of well kept secret Natal was largely depends on how long they were working on it before they announced it and how long it will go between when they first revealed it and when the first one is in a customer's hands.
